Ward 3 Councilman Chris Petty has been named a Hometown Hero in the “40 & Under” category by the Let's Do It Together Foundation. The recognition was awarded at the Black History Month community celebration held at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic and Conference Center on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

Listed among the accomplishments for which Mr. Petty was honored were his graduation from Sanford 101 and his election to Sanford City Council, where he serves as the youngest African American man elected to the board.
