It is undeniable that God loved Jesus deeply. Jesus assures us that God loves us just the same.

And the way he wants us to teach this to the world? Demonstrate it in the way we love each other.

Did you know that Jesus prayed for you at the Last Supper? Yes, you!

Jesus prayed for his disciples and all those who would believe through their word - which includes us.

His prayer was that we would be one because our unity and love for one another would show the world that Jesus really was who he said he was and did what he said he did.

We were never meant to go through this life alone, yet relationships and community can be hard. At the Last Supper, Jesus prays for us in a way that is meant to shape our life together.

These were the last words Jesus spoke from the cross in the Gospel of Luke. They aren't an empty platitude, but they are an expression of deep trust.

Jesus is quoting from Psalm 31, where the writer was dealing with depression on account of his circumstance and suffering.

Yet, he found that the only way forward was to trust God.

Did you know that Jesus didn't want to die on the cross?

It's true. In the final moments before he was arrested, he asked God if there was another way.

But while he didn't want the pain and suffering he would soon face, he *did* want what it would achieve - the defeat of sin and death, opening the way to our salvation.

We don't have to get excited about everything God has for us, but we can follow Jesus' example of trust in God's will and God's ultimate goodness.

Sermon Title: When We Don’t Want To
Scripture: Matthew 26:39, Luke 23:46

Just because something is God’s will doesn’t mean we’ll want to do it or go through it. Jesus models for us what prayer look like when what’s needed most isn’t surface-level joy but deep trust.
