Sunday Morning Devotional
“March Madness”
April 7, 2019
I suppose if you live in the Northeast, March Madness could be a colloquialism for the weather patterns. But generally, March Madness is known as a reference to the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament. My favorite team is the Syracuse Orange.
Every year, there is disappointment when teams don’t make the tournament, or a team does not meet expectations. One of the biggest upsets ever happened last year. The number 16 ranked UMBC defeated number 1 ranked Virginia.
While not a perfect analogy, the tournament has some similarities with real life. There is anxiety, stress, happiness, excitement, and disappointment. The picture with the snow could be a metaphor. It was a beautiful day...and life is beautiful. But we don’t like problems in our lives, and snow on the court is a big problem for a fun game.
One of my favorite passages about daily stress is from Jesus, recorded in Matthew’s gospel....”Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Let me close with a faith observation from Tony Bennett, Head Coach, Virginia Cavaliers Men’s Basketball. “When you have a relationship with the Lord, there’s a peace and perspective you have. The world didn’t give it, and the world can’t take it away."
Be safe, be well, and God bless. If you like basketball, enjoy the final of March Madness tomorrow night!
