Some people have asked for the notes from Sunday Morning concerning the Baptism in the Holy Ghost. Here they are:
“Teaching on the Baptism of the Holy Ghost”
Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit?
“Of the modern English translations of the Bible, it is only the King James Version of the Bible which uses the term “Holy Ghost.” It occurs 90 times in the KJV. The term “Holy Spirit” occurs 7 times in the KJV. There is no clear reason as to why the KJV translators used Ghost in most places and then Spirit in a few. The exact same Greek and Hebrew words are translated "ghost" and "spirit" in the KJV in different occurrences of the words”
IS THE HOLY GHOST A NEW TESTAMENT CONCEPT?
No! The Holy Ghost is found throughout the entire Bible- from Genesis to Revelation
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2] And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
***IN FACT- HE IS FOUND 86 TIMES IN THE OLD TESTAMENT (in 27 of the 39 books)
The Confusion Concerning the Holy Ghost
Lack of Education concerning the Holy Ghost
Acts 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
Resistance Against the Holy Ghost
Acts 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
7:54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart (furious), and they gnashed on (at) him with their teeth.
…57] Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,
The Timidity of those who are Baptized
1 Thessalonians 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
Another Trans.. “Don’t EXTINGUISH the Holy Spirit”
What Does it Mean to Be Baptized in the Holy Ghost?
BAPTISM: Hebrew word “mikveh” a ritual cleansing
In Hebrew, “baptizo” to be submersed or even to be overwhelmed or saturated
BASICALLY TO GO DOWN AND NEVER COME UP
There are at least 4 different types of baptisms mentioned in the Bible
The Jews were baptized before Christ came
John the Baptist was baptizing when Jesus begins His ministry
The disciples baptized in water
The Bible promises a baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire
Jesus told the disciples that some would be baptized with the baptism of martyrdom
SO AT LEAST FOUR BAPTISMS ARE MENTIONED… (salvation, water, Holy Ghost, and martyrdom)
Do I Have to be Baptized in the Holy Ghost to Be Saved?
Ephesians 4:5 says, “One Lord, one faith, one baptism”
👉One Lord means there is only ONE LORD that can save you
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Does this mean there is only One Person of the Godhead called Lord?
Acts 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33] Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
34] For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
35] Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
36] Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
One Faith… simply believing and trusting that ONE LORD
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
One Baptism… the Baptism that saves us (the new birth)
1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
👉One Baptism… we are not saved by water, Holy Ghost, or martyrdom baptism- WE ARE SAVED BY THE NEW BIRTH THROUGH JESUS CHRIST
Does the Bible Teach a Subsequent Work Called the Baptism of the Holy Ghost?
Absolutely! Matthew 3:11] I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
✳️We are not baptized in the Holy Ghost at salvation
We are born again by the Spirit…
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6] That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7] Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8] The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
John 20:21] Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22] And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23] Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
“This command is both a promise and an empowerment. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, essential for the disciples' understanding, guidance, and strength in their forthcoming mission. This moment is a foretaste of the full indwelling of the Spirit that would occur at Pentecost.”
👉👉👉Think about this… Jesus breathed on them as a SAMPLE
The Day of Pentecost there was a RUSHING MIGHTY WIND!
The New Birth is not Holy Ghost Baptism…
✳️Proof?… If the breathing on them was sufficient then He would never have commanded them to go to Jerusalem
Luke 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Acts 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5] For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Jesus told the disciples that their names were written in Heaven… Yet they were to receive the Holy Ghost

Is There a Difference Between Being Filled and Baptized?
OLD TESTAMENT SPEAKS OF BEING FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT
Exodus 31:2] See, I have called by name Bezaleel
3] And I have filled him with the spirit of God
👉Joshua, Othniel, Gideon, Jephthah, Samson, Saul, and David were all, it seems, filled with the Spirit of God
NT… before Pentecost
John the Baptist Luke 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
John’s mother Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
Luke 1:67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
BUT JESUS SAID SOMETHING GREATER WAS COMING!
Matthew 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12] And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
WAS THERE A HOLY GHOST BAPTISM BEFORE PENTECOST?
No! It was a New Testament gift
John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38] He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39] (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given ; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

DO I NEED THE HOLY GHOST BAPTISM?
✳️Jesus (as an example to every believer) was water baptized and the Holy Ghost rested on Him
✳️Jesus told the disciples it was expedient for them that the Holy Ghost to be sent to them
✳️Jesus commanded His disciples and all those that stood by Him to tarry until they were Baptized in the Holy Ghost
✳️The Early Church were adamant that believers be filled
✳️The Acts of the Apostles is a record of the Power they possessed
THE EARLY CHURCH THOUGHT IT NECESSARY TO SEE CONVERTS BAPTIZED IN THE HOLY GHOST
Samaria Acts 8:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
15] Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16] (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
17] Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Saul of Tarsus (Paul) Acts 9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. (Ok so it doesn’t say Paul spoke in tongues…. But)
1 Corinthians 14:2] For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him ; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
5] I would that ye all spake with tongues,
14] For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth,
18] I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
39] Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
Cornelius…. Acts 10:2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
44] While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45] And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46] For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.
The disciples at Ephesus… Acts 19:1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2] He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3] And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4] Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5] When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
