Something I am learning about self-indulgence is that it doesn't always look like overindulging in food, shopping, entertainment, or scrolling. Sometimes we indulge our need for approval. When this happens, we give ourselves the immediate relief of being liked:

“I'll just say what they want to hear.”
“I'll avoid that conversation.”
“I'll just stay in the background.”
“I'll compromise so they won't be upset with me.”

And for a moment, it works. The tension disappears. The disagreement is avoided.
Everyone seems happy. We feel relief. But what did that relief cost us?

Maybe we silenced truth.
Maybe we abandoned a boundary.
Maybe we compromised our convictions.
Maybe we made ourselves smaller so someone else could stay comfortable.

That's still self-indulgence. Because self-indulgence isn't simply “I want pleasure.”
Sometimes it's “I want relief from the discomfort of being disliked.” And when being liked becomes more important than being obedient, we're allowing the fear of rejection to become our source of comfort.

But Jesus has always offered something better.

We don't have to manipulate, perform, shrink, or compromise ourselves to be accepted. In Christ, we are already fully loved and fully known. So the next time you're tempted to say what they want to hear to keep the peace, pause and ask: “Am I choosing this because it's loving and true or because I can't tolerate the discomfort of being disliked?”

The goal isn't to become someone who doesn't care what anyone thinks. It's to become so secure in what God thinks that we no longer need everyone else to approve. That's a different kind of freedom; that's a breakthrough freedom.

What if we are our own biggest obstacle?

Welcome, August! This month, we're uncovering one of the quietest enemies of breakthrough—self-sabotage

Have you ever found yourself saying...

• "I'll do it tomorrow."
• "I'm just not ready."
• "Someone else could do it better."
• "What if I fail?"
• "What if people reject me?"

Maybe it isn't laziness. Maybe it isn't a lack of discipline. Maybe you've simply been living from patterns that once protected you but are now preventing you from becoming who God created you to be.

Self-sabotage isn't always obvious.

Sometimes it looks like procrastination.
Sometimes perfectionism.
Sometimes overthinking.
Sometimes people-pleasing.
Sometimes withdrawing.
Sometimes trying to control everything around us.

The good news? God isn't just interested in changing our behavior—He wants to heal the wound beneath it.

Throughout August, we'll discover how to stop living from fear and start living from our Kingdom identity. Because breakthrough doesn't come from trying harder. It comes from believing differently.

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus"(Romans 8:1, NIV).

This month, let's stop working against ourselves and start walking with God.

Please take note that due to the Oswego County Fair parade closing roads this evening, we have rescheduled our first meeting of the month to July 8th! Have a blessed and safe 4th of July!

Have you ever thought, "Certainly God has completed His good work in me. There can't be any more healing to be done!" I know I have.

As I've walked through my own healing journey, there have been moments when I breathed a sigh of relief after finishing another detox, another round of supplements, another difficult season. I assumed the hard work was behind me. Then one morning, after finishing my daily detox drink, I noticed something unexpected, and, honestly, quite disappointing. There was sediment sitting at the bottom of my water bottle. I realized right then and there that I had a choice. I could rinse it out and call it "good enough," or I could add more water, stir it up, and receive the full measure that had been prescribed.

As I pondered my decision, I had a knowing within that this was a lesson for me spiritually, too. Sometimes we think we're finished. We think we've healed enough. We've gone deep enough. But God sees what still remains beneath the surface—not to shame us, but to heal us.

This month, we're inviting Him to stir what we've allowed to settle. We're talking about Breakthrough Self-Validation—that exhausting cycle of trying to prove we're enough through our performance, accomplishments, relationships, approval, or the opinions of others.

The truth is, if we're constantly trying to prove our worth, we'll never experience the rest that comes from knowing our worth has already been settled by God.

Throughout July, we'll uncover: * Why we feel the need to prove ourselves. *The wounds that fuel self-validation. *How God's truth tears down the strongholds of human reasoning. * What it looks like to live from His approval instead of striving for the approval of others.

Our breakthrough Scripture is 2 Corinthians 10:4–5. Together, we're asking God to expose every lie that keeps us striving and to replace it with the truth of who He says we are.

Because breakthrough begins the moment we stop asking, "How can I prove my value?" and start resting in the truth that our value has already been decided by God. Who's ready to experience that kind of freedom this month? Come join us in the conversation!

What if the greatest obstacle to breakthrough isn’t weakness but the belief that we’re “doing just fine” on our own?

This month in Activ8Her, we’re diving into — uncovering the subtle ways performance, comparison, pride, or obligation can quietly replace dependence on Jesus.

Self-righteousness doesn’t always look loud or religious. Sometimes it looks like:
• needing to be right
• measuring yourself against others
• performing for approval
• struggling to receive grace
• judging others while secretly condemning yourself

But Jesus didn’t come to make us better performers. He came to reconcile us to Himself. Together, we’ll explore how breakthrough happens when we stop building identity on our goodness and start resting in His righteousness instead.

This isn’t about shame. It’s about freedom. Freedom from pretending. Freedom from proving. Freedom from carrying what only grace was meant to hold. Remember, "This righteousness is given through faith in[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:22-23, NIV).

Get ready for honest conversations, heart work, healing, and breakthrough. 💛
