It was a split from the First Baptist Church, which was located, on the corner of Elm and Oak Streert in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. For the first few weeks they met in the homes of several members, one of these was Deacon H.H. Hatter, who resided at 34 Oak Street, at that time. It was not long before the members purchased a new site where the first church building was located. William Garrett, who op
erated a place of business, called Over the Top. The congregation purchased a tent, which they placed on the two lots, which is now 127 Morrow Road. The street was called South Section Line, at the time. The few members worker very hard to establish a basement Edifice. And here they held services between 1923 and 1935. They were able to complete their basement church by giving liverally of themselves and soliciting from businesses and friends. The first Pastor that the congregation called was Rev. Barber, who was from Muskogee County. Nine Pastors were called to serve between 1935 and 1991. Roosevelt Gildon became the pastor of Centennial Baptist Church in June 1991. He was installed in September of 1991. After 76 years in the old building we built a new building in 1999 which was located at 123 Morrow Road where the church parsonage had been located. We have been blessed with a new church, individual classrooms, a baptisory, a sound room, new furniture for the pulpit and for the choir stand, new choir rober and a church van. We've added a water fountain and a new piano in the church. God has blessed us to start Vacation Bible School and the Spirit is truly with us. Gildon is now in his 20th year as Pastor of Centennial Baptist Church. Gildon believes that God called him to preach His Word and to lead God's people. He feels that if he doesn't preach God's Word and if he fails to tell people what thus said the Lord then their blood will be on his hands. So, Rev. Gildon feels it is his obligation to tell us that the wages of sin is death and the way out of sin is repentance. So no matter how low you are, his message to you is that God can save you through repentance.
