We’ve loved our “Summer Home” in Edgehill Chapel but back-to-school season means it’s back to our regular home at Guzman Hall this Sunday. Same time, same beautiful people, same good God. See you at 10!

Tonight we will join several Marin County Churches for a special Good Friday service hosted at As part of that evening, we will lift up the cup of salvation and remember the Lord’s sacrificial and atoning death on our behalf. It would be so good to see you there as we gather in solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters.

A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
Matt 21:8-9

Hosanna is simultaneously prayer and praise. It means “God help us, God save us” AND “We praise You; You’re amazing!”

It is both prayer and praise… because you are in the presence of the answer to your greatest need.

Mark 1:35-36
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”

Many people would have slept late after such a busy day, but Jesus rose early, even before dawn, and went to a remote (wilderness) place to pray. This sacrificial act paints Jesus as consciously dependent on His Father for strength and direction for what lay ahead of Him.

Simon and his companions seem to have had the common attitude that when things are favorable we do not need God’s help. Apparently they felt Jesus was not taking advantage of His popularity to promote His mission. They did not realize that God directed Jesus’ mission, not the responses of people.

I don’t know what God has called you to do or how He has called you to serve…but I know that you MUST carve out time for solitude with God and prayer.

We all have our demons, right? What the Bible refers to here as an impure spirit. But imagine with me a life free of impurities. A life free of unclean thoughts. Imagine…dream a little…of how wonderful life could be if you were completely free of unclean actions. A life completely free from lust and po*******hy. A life completely free from greed and avarice. A life completely free from out-of-control anger. A life completely free from fear. A life completely free from obsessive control.

Yes, Jesus came to destroy – to completely do away with, to rid you of – unclean thoughts and unclean actions.

writes, “Please do not add fasting into your already over-busy, overfull life. Instead, on your fasting day(s), think: What can I cut out? Where can I find a little more time to pray and focus on God?”
“Formation is about less, not more. About slowing down and simplifying your life around what matters most: life with Jesus.”

What might you subtract over the next 5 weeks in order to make room to join us for this experiential study on the subject of fasting? If you would like to join a group of people making space to meet with Jesus starting this Tuesday, email [email protected] and we will get you signed up.

Jesus lived in the upside-down reality of the Kingdom of God. Jesus had grown so accustomed to the invariably upside-down world that, paradoxically and happily, everything seemed to him normal, rightside up. To be rooted in this Kingdom is to enter into a way of life, an altogether new way of life in which your undisputed top priority is to completely rearrange your life around being with and becoming like Jesus.

Mark 1:15
“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

Mark 1:4-5
And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

1-800-GOT-JUNK. “You point, and we make junk disappear.” Yes, they can make external junk disappear. But only God can make the junk IN me disappear, and then only if I confess (point) to it.

This inner work that God’s Spirit does in us will take time. It won’t just “disappear” overnight, but I can be transformed from one degree of glory to another…one degree at a time.d

Ephesians 2:4-5
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved. [Acceptance!]

Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. [Fruitfulness!]
