You can’t have Palm Sunday without palm branches. Or can you?

The ancient story found in the Gospel of John, speaks of Jesus coming to Jerusalem. The crowds came to see the one who had raised Lazarus from the dead and presented palms and perhaps even their expectations.

We all continued that tradition at Unity and St. Andrew’s, but we presented another kind of palms in letters and allowed “the crowds” to share words “from the p-a-l-m-s” even turning some letters sideways and upside down like the reality of our lives.

Time was spent contemplating and sharing the meaning for us of the new words, and maybe even more importantly, meanings for others.

We hope a meaningful moment for everyone as we work through this Holy Week.

At last Sunday worship, the parable of the Good Samaritan was not just the gospel text, but the people of St. Andrew’s needed to spring into action when we heard animal cries from the sanctuary rooftop 10 minutes into the service.

We took a pause to tend to the concern and found not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, but 6 little kittens that apparently were birthed or transferred to a little nook on the roof.

Wrapped in sweatshirts and placed in a box, the 6 little ones joined us for the rest of worship, sleeping through the rest of the hour.

Quite a surprising way to live out the call in the parable of the Good Samaritan to all our neighbors, including God’s wider wonderful creations.
