What can the church provide for our kids growing up?

A place to belong.
A place to serve.
A place to be known.
A place to be safe.
A place to grow.

On Sunday, one of our students shared a beautiful testimony as she prepares to leave for college. Over the past five years this community has become so much more than a place she attended on Sundays.

It became a place where she could sing. Where she could cry. Where she could celebrate. Where she could grow in her faith. Where she found people who know her, love her, and make room for her. And now, as she looks back on those five years, she says one word again and again:

Gratitude.

This is why we believe kids and teenagers aren’t just the future of the church. They are the church. They need a community that will make room for them, trust them, listen to them, give them opportunities to serve, and walk alongside them as they become who God created them to be.

And we get to be that community.

We’re so grateful she let us be a small part of her story. And we’re even more grateful for the ways her story reminds us why this matters.

Service has been part of the Wayfinders story from the very beginning.

For years, every fifth Sunday meant stepping outside our normal rhythm and into our community to serve. Now that we have our own building, service doesn’t replace our Sunday gathering—but we don’t want it to disappear from our identity, either. Serving is still part of who we are.

So this month, we moved our service project to the Saturday before fifth Sunday and spent the morning serving alongside The Teacher Reuse in San Marcos.

The Teacher Reuse collects gently used classroom supplies, furniture, and materials and makes them available to teachers at no cost. It’s a simple idea with a big impact—helping educators stock their classrooms and provide for their students without having to reach into their own pockets.

Our Wayfinders crew loaded up our trailer with furniture and other large items from their storage units, helped clear and clean out a space, transported things to their new home in the San Marcos outlet mall, and then helped carry it in and put things away. And yes, there were kids serving alongside the adults, too—because there’s no age requirement on service.

We’re grateful for organizations like The Teacher Reuse that are already doing the work of loving and serving our community, and we’re glad we could come alongside them for a morning.

On Sunday we celebrated and prayed over our kids—not just because they’re growing up, but because they already have a place in the kingdom of God.

What a joy it is to watch them learn, ask questions, discover who God has made them to be, and take another step in their journey of faith.

We don’t take lightly the privilege of shepherding their hearts. It’s a gift to walk alongside them, to teach them, to listen to them, to pray for them, and to help create space for their faith to take root and grow.

Because these aren’t just the future of the church. They are the church. And we are so grateful to be part of their story.

Family Sunday is tomorrow!

Join us as we celebrate our kids and teens taking their next steps from Nursery to Waykids and from Waykids to Teens.

And because it’s Family Sunday, kids and teens will remain in service with us! We’ll also invite them to join our worship team on stage, so if you know someone who would like to participate, swipe to see this week’s setlist together and get familiar with the songs. 🎶

“When we say I believe, what follows ought to be heartfelt and well thought out.”

For the past five weeks, we’ve been diving into the words of the Apostles’ Creed—not simply to know what we say, but to understand what we mean when we say it.

Because belief shouldn’t just be something we point to and say, “It’s against my religion.” It should be central to who we are, shaping our choices, our relationships, and the way we live our lives.

So when we say, “I believe…” may we truly mean it.

Eternal life isn’t just about what comes after this life.

It’s about an aliveness that is present to us right now—one that gives us courage, strength, resilience, joy, peace, hope, grace, mercy, and love.

And when we live from that life, it doesn’t just change us. It changes the people around us and the community we’re part of.
