As the season of rejoicing in our Lord's birth approaches, may we stay focused on what truly matters:
The spiritual singularity of eternity intersecting the finite
The Creator inserting Himself into His creation
The Author becomes the lead character of the story
The Unimaginable Greatness communing with the lowly
The Perfect One coming to heal the broken ones
The Majestic partnering with the mundane"
The Highness coming alongside the fallen.
Our Savior coming to redeem us!
The enormity of the birth of Christ surpasses our earthly superlatives.

Worship: Jesus the Powerful Word (Heb. 1:3)
Our Lord Jesus Christ “upholds all things by the word of His power.” We saw earlier that all things were created through Him; now we learn that He holds all things together. The same voice that created the world also upholds it. God’s omnipresence in every corner of the universe keeps everything in existence. He didn’t just create the universe and then leave it on its own to exist independently from Him. He keeps it going!

Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States, said ""One man with courage makes a majority."
How do we get the kind of courage, to stand up to the prevailing godless culture surrounding us? Jesus said, "In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). Me and the Lord are a super-majority (pardon the poor grammar).

Names of God: Messiah the Prince (Dan. 9:25-26)
Who can hear the title Messiah without thinking of Handel’s oratorio by that name? Covering the central outline of biblical history, that composer focused on the prophecies concerning the coming of God’s solution to the sin problem, the unfolding of Christ’s redemptive work, and the eschatological culmination of His return for judgment and final resurrection of all. This is the story of Messiah. And that is the prophecy of Daniel that Messiah the Prince would bring a salvation of peace to His people. Jesus reflected this promise to all believers, ""Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you..."" (John 14:27)

Greatness of God’s Foolishness (1 Cor. 1:22-25)
This is the dividing line between belief and unbelief, true wisdom and true foolishness. Our Lord’s crucifixion is the eternal fulcrum, the pivot point of reality. And the world has got it completely wrong in their pursuit of wisdom apart from Christ! Nothing is worse than to build an edifice on a faulty foundation. The apostle Paul attacks the very core of life without Christ; he shakes the worldly notion of wisdom and foolishness to the core.

Upper Room: First Things First (John 13:4)
Imagine in your mind’s eye the Creator and Sovereign of the Universe, who is high and lifted up, the train of whose robe filled the temple, the Alpha and the Omega, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, the Eternal King of Glory, the great I AM—imagine this One arising from supper, kneeling before His disciples, taking on the role of a servant and washing their feet.

Father Sky and Mother Earth
How do you as a Christian respond when someone publically refers to “father sky and mother earth,” as happened in a speech given at the memorial services in Arizona for the victims of an insane man’s rampage? The apostle Paul confronted the pagan philosophers in Athens not with acerbic denunciation but with careful tact. (Acts 17:22-23).

Worship: Exact Representation of God (Heb. 1:3)
We learn about God’s nature in a general way through creation. Theologians call this general revelation. Special revelation comes by written communication from God, the Bible. However, the Bible presents to us Jesus Christ as the exact representation of God; we might call this "Christological" revelation. Creation and the Bible (per se) were not enough to reveal the entirety of God’s character. Therefore, the faithful desire to grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States, said, "The moment a person forms a theory, his imagination sees in every object only the traits that favor that theory." I should understand carefully when another Christian disagrees with my interpretation of a Scripture passage, to make sure I am not missing a legitimate insight that might not favor my interpretation. If, after careful examination, there is still a disagreement, then I can embrace and defend my interpretation more intelligently.

Names of God: The Merciful God (Deut. 4:21)
God’s mercy is remarkable—precisely because mercy is not something that can be deserved. This is popularly stated: grace is undeserved favor bestowed; mercy is deserved judgment withheld. Nothing we do can invoke any obligation on God’s part to show mercy. We commonly use the saying, “Throw oneself on the mercy of the court.” To accept or appreciate mercy, one must accept one’s own guiltiness.

Wisdom of the Gospel (1 Cor. 1:17-21)
The gospel by which we are saved and by which we live is not a complicated thing. There is no making the message clearer than with the words Paul uses. We tread on dangerous ground, crowding the line between truth and error, when we seek to explain the gospel in other terms. It is not simply the words that are used, for those obviously change according to language and translation. But the concept of the gospel is really quite singular and simple to express. We must never complicate it as though we could say it better.
