United Church of Christ (Congregational) of San Luis Obispo UCC SLO's mission is "to love, do justice, and walk humbly with our God." Our purpose is to enhance a We are an Open & Affirming church.

The United Church of Christ, Congregational, of San Luis Obispo is an inclusive Christian church. We have a rich tradition, starting with the Congregationalists, of diversity, inclusiveness and social justice. We believe that "God is Still Speaking" to us through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. The UCC Church was the first to ordain a Black minister; the first to ordain a woman minister and the first to ordain a gay minister.

Sarah laughed when she heard that she and Abraham would be parents. God told them that 25
years ago. They thought they were too old. So she laughed. God was faithful though. God did the unexpected. Karl Barth once said that “Laughter is the closest thing to the grace of God.” Grace, like laughter, is unexpected. It surprises us and refreshes us. We need grace like we need laughter.

Let's Par-Tea tomorrow! Everyone's invited to an Afternoon Tea themed Nosh after church tomorrow. There will be herbal, white, green, and black teas carefully chosen to pair well with tea sandwiches, savory tea bites, salads, and petite sweets. There will be wonderful music led by gifted people in our church. And tea trivia and tea prizes! Who's ready to Par-Tea tomorrow?!?!

Compassionate Ministry

God called Abram (later Abraham) and Sarai (later Sarah) to leave behind what was familiar to
them in order to receive a greater blessing. Abram and Sarai had the courage to trust God and
God’s future for them. It’s really hard to leave behind the comfortable and familiar. But what do
we miss when we refuse to trust that there is something even greater waiting for us in the
future?
