In this week’s Young Adults Bible study, we discussed drinking the Blood of Christ. Throughout life, people pay much attention to what they put into their bodies. Diet trends are everywhere—high-protein, organic, plant-based, intermittent fasting, people read labels, track nutrients, calories, and are mindful of their health. But the deeper question is “What actually sustains our lives”. You can eat the cleanest diet, take care of your body, and still feel empty, restless, or disconnected. That’s something we see all around us—people who have everything physically yet still feel like something is missing internally. Here’s where Christ has the ultimate offer for us; His Body and Blood.
Christ’s command to “drink my blood” is not symbolic language, but the fulfillment of God’s long covenant history with His people. From Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David, Old Testament covenants were sealed in blood as signs of a shared life between God and humanity, yet these covenants were repeatedly broken. Through the prophet Jeremiah, God promised a new covenant in which His law would be written not on stone tablets but on human hearts. This promise is fulfilled at the Last Supper when Jesus Christ declares His Blood to be the blood of the new and eternal covenant, offered for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore, every celebration of the Eucharist is presented as a real participation in Christ’s divine life, where believers receive His Body and Blood so that God’s law may dwell within them and unite them more deeply to Him.
