November 2nd Sermon Summary: This All Saints Sunday sermon explores the deep spiritual significance of commemorating those who have gone before us in faith. The pastor traces the historical development of All Saints Day from its origins in 609 CE through its blending with Celtic traditions, explaining how Halloween evolved from these sacred observances. The central theological point emphasizes that we are not alone in our faith journey—we are surrounded by a “great cloud of witnesses” whose presence becomes especially palpable during this season. The sermon challenges the congregation to recognize that all baptized believers are saints, not just canonized figures from church history. Drawing on Celtic mysticism, the pastor describes how the veil between the earthly and spiritual realms becomes thin during this time, allowing us to feel the presence of those who have died. The message concludes with a powerful reminder that the Eucharist is a gathering of both living and departed saints, united in Christ’s eternal love.

“Are we truly seeing those around us?

Last Sundays sermon reminded us that God’s grace and healing are available to all, even those we may overlook or cast aside. Like Jesus seeing the lepers or Elisha healing Naaman, we’re called to recognize the humanity in everyone - from the homeless on our streets to the immigrants living in fear.

But it’s not just about seeing others. It’s about acknowledging the parts of ourselves we try to hide or forget. We’re all ‘lepers’ in some way, yearning for wholeness.

The key? Gratitude. Living with thankfulness for God’s daily gifts brings us closer to true salvation - a state of wholeness and peace. It’s not about the afterlife, but about living fully present now, participating in God’s vision of compassion and equality for all creation.

Wake up. Become truly alive. Be grateful. For in that trust, we find healing and wholeness.
