Earlier this week we were visited by the family of George Shimamoto, who designed the San Jose Betsuin's Hondo nearly 90 years ago.

Pictured are Shimamoto's daughters: Lily Tashima (left) and Teruko Neuwalder (right).

The Japan-born Shimamoto also designed the Buddhist churches in San Francisco and Oakland before World War II. During the war, he and his family were interned in California and Utah. He later founded the Cherry Blossom Festival in Newark. N.J.

Thank you so much for visiting us! We are forever grateful to George Shimamoto and his work. 💙
