Guiding Light Bay Area which is dedicated to the Qur'an, just sponsored 10 students to be able to attend the 'Connecting Our Youth With The Qur'an' retreat this weekend in Atlanta, GA, which is hosted by the Lamppost Education Initiative.

As many of you are aware, at Guiding Light Bay Area we established a Waqf (Endowment) fund at the end of 2018.

By the fadhl of Almighty Allah, we closed on an endowment property for Guiding Light & also leased it out within the last 2 weeks. While we didn't expect such sudden results, it is through your sincere Du'as we've been able to accomplish this.

Our vision is to build a permanent, self-sustaining organization dedicated to the singular purpose of memorization of the Qur’an. Our goal is to continue growing our endowment, until we are completely self-sustaining, insha Allah.

If at any time in the future you'd like to assist specifically towards our endowment, or towards sponsoring students, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

$12K Left to Guiding Light Bay Area's Year-end Endowment Goal!

In November 2018, while in Makkah, we launched our endowment fund to maintain Guiding Light for many years into the future. It is our belief that this work is too important to rely on individual donations.

We set a goal was to collect $100,000 from 100 people. We are happy to report that we were able to reach our goal, and we now have a formal endowment account where we have deposited our funds.

We would like to have an endowment fund large enough to sustain our efforts for the medium to long-term. Our personal goal is that our generations to come can benefit from our efforts today, insha Allah. We have a goal to reach $500K in the upcoming years. Once we have reached this amount, we would be relieved of the need to raise funds annually.

This year, we had a goal to add $50,000 to our endowment campaign. We are only $12,000 short!

We are reaching out to our generous supporters on this last day of 2019 to help us close the gap.

This is my personal appeal to those who care about the Qur’an and its preservation. The Qur’an is preserved by Allah himself, but let us do our part to ensure it continues to be taught to our next generations. In return, I ask Allah to illuminate our hearts with the Qur’an and may it become a means of our salvation in the end. Aameen.

Introducing: Sisters' Tajweed Classes
Every Saturday at 9am, with Sister Khatija Afroze

We are delighted to announce a new class at Guiding Light dedicated to our sisters. This class, taught by Sister Khatija Afroze will cover elementary tajweed (rules governing the pronunciation of the holy Qur'an). The intent of this class is provide expert instruction for our sisters on Qur'anic recitation, with the ultimate goal of drawing near to God.

Prerequisite for this class is basic fluency in Arabic, and an introductory understanding of the Arabic alphabet.

The classes will take place every Saturday at 9am, starting on October 19th, at Guiding Light 2682 Berryessa Rd, San Jose.

Guiding Light Bay Area introduces
MAKTAB: Qur'an Classes at Guiding Light.

The MAKTAB program is designed with the central purpose of providing individualized, one-on-one attention to the student. In comparison, most Sunday school programs lack focus on individualized Qur’anic recitation. This leads to a slow and questionable progress in the student’s recitation. Primary focus of the MAKTAB program is to provide one-on-one attention in small class sizes. Class size are approximately 7 students. Each student is taught individually at their own pace. This program is open to students of all ages, with the minimum age of 6.

We welcome students at all levels of proficiency in recitation, including those that are just beginning their journey with the Arabic alphabet, and those who are looking to complete their Qur’anic recitation with fluency and perfection.
