A Reflection of 2025
As we approach the end of another calendar year, it is only natural to look back with gratitude on the journey we have shared as the San Jose Catholic Professionals. This past year has been a testament to the strength of our community, providing us with numerous opportunities to integrate our professional lives with our deeply held Catholic values.
Our monthly gatherings have served as more than just networking events; they have been a source of profound inspiration. From insightful discussions on ethical leadership in the modern workplace to educational deep-dives into the social teachings of the Church, our meetings this year have challenged us to grow both intellectually and spiritually. We’ve explored the intersection of technology and faith, heard from local leaders navigating complex industries, and fostered a space where professional challenges are met with communal support.
Highlighting Our December Meeting
In December, we welcomed Dr. Jason Fitzer, Assistant Dean of Students at Santa Clara University, who presented a powerful session titled "The High Cost of Learning: Supporting Students' Basic Needs." Dr. Fitzer shed light on the stark reality facing the modern college student—many of whom are first-generation or lower-income—struggling with the rising costs of groceries and the lack of affordable meals in "food deserts" surrounding campuses.
We learned how Santa Clara University is actively addressing these challenges through initiatives targeting food and housing insecurity, utility assistance, and transportation support. Dr. Fitzer also highlighted their work in helping students navigate applications for vital resources like SNAP and health insurance. If you would like to learn more or support the Bronco Food Pantry, please visit the SCU Basic Needs website or consider making a donation here.
We are honored to begin the New Year with a special visit from Bishop Cantú of the Diocese of San José. He will lead us in a timely discussion titled "Spiritual Renewal after the Synod: How can we be truly open to the Holy Spirit in our schools, in our parishes, and in our homes?"
