Weekly Reflection - 1st Week of Elijah

Zacchaeus & the Blind Man
Luke 18:35–19:10

There's something striking about these two stories sitting side by side. A blind beggar on the roadside and a wealthy tax collector up in a tree — two people who couldn't be more different, both desperate to get close to Jesus.

The blind man was told to be quiet. He got louder. Zacchaeus couldn't see over the crowd. He climbed a tree. Neither one waited for an invitation. Neither one cared what people thought. And Jesus stopped for both of them.

As we enter the season of Elijah this week, maybe that's worth sitting with — the moments in our own lives where we've let the crowd, the noise, or our own pride keep us from reaching out. These two didn't. And everything changed for them because of it.

A blessed Seventh Sunday of Summer at Mar Narsai Parish celebrating the Divine Liturgy with Father Athnaiel Bazi. It was followed by a fellowship potluck brunch lovingly prepared by the devoted faithful of Mar Narsai. God bless you all.

We also celebrated the birthday of Johny Ibrahim. May our Lord continue to bless you with good health, peace, joy and many blessed years.

Weekly Reflection — Seventh Sunday of Summer

Do Not Lose Heart

This Sunday, the readings give us a simple message that we all need to hear: do not lose heart. Keep praying, keep trusting God, and do not give up.

In the reading from Isaiah, we see the people looking for help and security in places other than God. We can easily do the same. When we are worried about our family, our work, our health, or our future, we often try to solve everything on our own. We make our plans and depend on our own strength. But God reminds us that our first place of trust should always be Him.

In the Gospel, Jesus tells us about a widow who kept asking for justice. She did not give up, even when she did not receive an answer right away. Jesus uses her persistence to teach us to pray always and not lose heart.

How often do we pray for something and, when nothing seems to change, become discouraged? We may even wonder, “Is God listening?” The Gospel reminds us that we should not stop praying simply because the answer has not come yet. God hears us, even when we do not understand His timing.

Jesus also speaks about the tax collector who simply says, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” He comes before God with humility. He does not compare himself to anyone else or try to prove that he is better. He simply asks for God's mercy.

This is also how we should come before the Holy Qurbana.

We do not come to the Holy Altar because we are perfect. We come because we need Christ. In the Holy Qurbana, we receive the great and holy Mystery of the Body and Blood of our Lord, given for the forgiveness of our debts and the salvation of our souls.

As we begin this new week, let us remember:

Keep praying, even when the answer seems far away.
Keep trusting God, even when we do not understand what He is doing.
Keep our hearts humble, knowing that we all need His mercy.

Whatever you may be carrying today, do not lose heart. Bring it to God in prayer. He knows your heart, He knows your struggles, and He never stops calling you closer to Him.

May the Lord strengthen our faith, give us patience in our prayers, and prepare our hearts to receive Him with humility, love, and true faith.

Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep hoping in the Lord.

A truly blessed and extraordinary Sunday at our parish, filled with the grace, love, and presence of our Lord.

We were deeply honored and humbled to welcome His Holiness Mar Awa III, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, who celebrated the Divine Liturgy with us at our humble parish. His presence among us was a profound blessing and a moment that will remain forever cherished in the hearts of our parish family.

Adding to the joy of this sacred day, our newly ordained parish priest, Rabi Qasha Athnaiel Bazi, celebrated his first Divine Liturgy in commemoration of the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ. May our Lord strengthen him in his holy priesthood and grant him wisdom, courage, humility, and many blessed years of faithful service to His Church and His people.

Following the Divine Liturgy, our beloved Ladies Auxiliary prepared and served a beautiful fellowship meal, generously donated by Sargon Hermes and his family in loving memory of his late father, Jonathan Hermes. May the Lord receive his soul into His heavenly kingdom and comfort and bless his family for their generosity, love, and remembrance.

On this most blessed occasion, we pray that the intercession of our Holy Mother, St. Mary the Blessed Virgin, may continually surround our families and our parish with her prayers and protection. May the prayers and intercession of our patron saint, Mar Narsai, rise before the throne of God on our behalf.

May our Lord Jesus Christ bless, protect, and guide our parish, our families, and His entire Church, now and always.
