In our Lutheran heritage, we use the church season of Lent to prepare ourselves for receiving the joyful good news of salvation on Easter Sunday. This begins with Ash Wednesday and counts 40 days (excluding Sundays) to Easter Sunday. During Lent, we embrace humility and repentance with a more somber tone, just like Jesus entering into the wilderness for forty days of testing and His passion journey leading to His death upon the Cross. Christian disciplines of fasting or intentional acts of kindness or devotion to prayer or Scripture are welcomed but not mandatory. It is well as long as it draws you to count on Christ and reflect His character.

Next Wednesday, LCHS EM will host an interactive worship service in the Parish Hall at 7:30pm. We welcome you to a time of worship, prayer, and contemplation. Interestingly, Ash Wednesday lands on Valentine’s Day this year, and I hope for us to reflect on who and where we find love. The Biblical texts will be Jonah 3 and Romans 8:6-10. We look forward to gathering with you in person.
