Common Table SF

Common Table SF Beginning June 2018, we are returning to a home-based model three Sundays per month. Join us! We’d love for you to pull up a chair!

The first Sunday every month is Generative Sunday where we serve our local neighborhoods and community. Common Table is a church community responding to God's invitation to belong, be reconciled, and journey together in the life of Jesus.

This Mother’s Day we acknowledged our genderfull God’s feminine nature with a meditation on this image of Mother and Child of Kibeho by iconographer William Hart McNichols and prayer of the same name by :
Sweet Mother of the universe,
Enfold me in the circle of your unconditional love.
I am prepared to be adored, Mother.
I have set down the burdens of self-recrimination and self-righteousness
And reach freely for you now.
Lift me from the illusion
That I am in charge of the world.
Lift me from anguish
Of separation from my source.
Life me from my isolation and weariness.
I take refuge in your kiss,
The universal kiss
That transfigures the heart of humanity,
Renewing and revivifying us,
So that, blessed and well-loved, we may love and bless all that is.

Today at Common Table: “Materiality as Resistance is a textured teaching about who we are called to be in the world through the lens of loving God, loving ourselves, and loving our neighbor. Walter discusses faith and our responsibility to one another, and how churches can model collaborative social structure, and goes so far as to invite individual believers and church leadership to start considering making decisions with the neighbor and neighborhood in mind.” —

Tonight Common Table lit the fourth Advent candle in gratitude for the humble ones and the joyful ones who have much to teach us about watching for God in the darkness and responding with celebration that indeed God is with us, Immanuel, Word made flesh.

A journey can become a sacred thing:
Make sure, before you go,
To take the time
To bless your going forth
To free your heart of ballast
So that the compass of your soul
Might direct you toward
The territories of spirit
Where you will discover
More of your hidden life
And the urgencies
That deserve to claim you.
