Tze Zhan Monastery is a nonprofit religious organization in San Francisco,
California. It was incorporated and established in 1997 by the founding Abbot, Master
Tao Roung. Prior to its establishment, Master Tao Roung felt the need to establish a Dharma Center
in San Francisco for Chinese-English bilingual students who were interested in learning
Buddhism. The Dharma group continued to grow until i
t became more organized and
intended to study Tibetan Buddhism and the Practice Lineage. Since its establishment,
the Tze Zhang Monastery has members and supporters from different background, and
we provide them and the public with opportunities in learning Tibetan Buddhism and
participating in community services. Currently, the Tze Zhang
Monastery is directed by Venerable Drubpon Rinpoche Gonpo Dorjee. Our main goal is
to preserve and practice the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism within the Mahayana
school. We continue the disciplined practice of Buddhism that encourages students to
develop compassion–loving-kindness for all beings and wisdom–insight into the nature
of reality. Tze Zhang Monastery provides a place in the Bay Area where student-
members and the general public can explore and practice Buddhist teachings,
meditation, mindfulness training, retreat, and hold interfaith discussions. Our primary
vision is to implement the Buddha's teachings in our daily lives through the actual
practice of Buddha Dharma with courage and perseverance in accumulating merits and
wisdom. We welcome everyone and hope all sentient beings are able to realize their
nature of mind.
