Personal choices have shaped our lives. Some were made too fast, without time to see the good and the bad. Certain things were dressed in bright colors and drew us like bees to nectar. We chose, we sighed, we cried. It was mere color and taste - not substance. Time teaches wisdom - or does it? Youth or age or circumstances plays little part. Though summer still lingers in the last of vegetables in the garden, cooler air pushes down from the North and with it the subtle changes that color sumac and woodbine with brilliant reds. Some song birds stay during the winter, but their songs are different. This is the season of tart red apples and wood smoke twirling through the tops of tall evergreen trees. It seems only yesterday that spring broke through with her wild colors and thunderstorms. And it will seem only another day until this season has passed and the woods will green once more. Use this tranquil time to rest and walk and to enjoy seeing nature in her bare bones. ~ The Indian, essentially an outdoor person, has no use for handkerchiefs; he was practically immune to colds, and like the animal, not addicted to spitting. ~

The first crystal clear morning after days of blue mist is like music after a long silence. Even the cool air does not dampen the spirits of domestic animals and those that live in the woods. A young bobcat in prime coat wanders along the rock ledges in full view but unaware of interested eyes. No doubt he hunts for field mice and that explains why the barn cats have stayed so close to home. We have not felt the extremes of oncoming winter, but time will insure it. Meantime, adjust, adjust. Don't be taken by surprise. Prepare for change and the unexpected within change. ~ Our people possessed remarkable powers of concentration.....and I sometimes fancy that such nearness to nature.....keeps [us] in touch with unseen powers. ~

A person has to have enough confidence in himself to go ahead and run a good race, even when he knows it is going to be grueling and that he might not be the winner. But that is so much better than sitting down and saying to himself that he isn't good enough to try. Most people tend to lean on the belief that they are not good enough. But no one starts out good enough. It is the getting up and getting into living that makes us good enough. At times self-esteem melts like ice in the sun, but it certainly does not mean we do not qualify. The fight is not with others - but with ourselves. We have to overcome ourselves and all our hidden voices that tell us we are not going to make it. ~ I am here on my own ground and I will never go back. You can kill me here but you cannot make me go back. ~

Born June 22, 1952, on the Six Nations Reserve in Ohsweken, Ontario, Mr. Greene is a 73 year old FIRST NATIONS Canadian actor who belongs to the ONEIDA tribe. He has worked on stage, in film, and in TV productions in Canada, the U.K., and the U.S.

He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his 1990 performance in "Dances with Wolves". Other films you may have seen him in include Thunderheart, Maverick, Die Hard with a Vengeance, the Green Mile, and Wind River. Graham Greene graduated from the Centre for Indigenous Theatre in 1974 & immediately began performing in professional theatre in Toronto and England, while also working as an audio technician for area rock bands. His TV debut was in 1979 and his screen debut in 1983. His acting career has now spanned over 4 decades & he remains as busy as ever. In addition to the Academy Award nomination for Dance with Wolves, he has been consistently recognized for his work, and also received nominations in 1994, 2000, 2004, 2006, and 2016. Graham Greene lives in Toronto, Canada, married since 1994, and has 1 adult daughter.
