From Nate Pequette:

Don't forget this Wednesday at 7:00, September 24th, we will gather at Church of the Sojourners to hear stories from Palestine. I had the honor of going with Mennonite Action to Palestine this past June. One of things the Palestinian people asked of us everywhere we went was to share their stories. I want to share them with you! (Link is below)

This morning I was reading the new book edited by Palestinian Theologians John and Sam Munayer, The Cross and the Olive Tree. We got to spend some time with Sam while in Palestine. In the introduction to this collection of essays by young, up and coming theologians, they write, "We, Palestinian Christians, often call ourselves the living stones of the land of the resurrection, believing in the good news of Christ. Yet leaping from from Good Friday to Easter Sunday without fully entering the long silence of Holy Saturday may risk overlooking or even glorifying suffering. It feels as if God is absent in these moments, and we experience the paralyzing effects of fear with horrors still unfolding. Still, our faith calls us to love our enemies and remain faithful to the God of the oppressed, even when everything feels uncertain and dark."

This is what we heard and experienced every day in our time with our siblings in Palestine. A people holding onto the story of Jesus to remain faithful, love their enemies, and hope for resurrection. We have a lot to learn from our friends there and we want to stand in solidarity with them. We are praying for God to give us the imagination to stand in faithfulness in our current moment both with our siblings in Palestine and the oppressed and marginalized here in our country. So come and hear these stories of faith and resilience as we discern what our next steps are as Mennonite Action Bay Area.

Then on Oct. 7, we will gather together for a training with Mennonite Action. Nick and Emily will be leading us in a workshop to help build our courage for what is next in our current moment. We need each other. We need your voice and ideas as we lean in together to imagine what Jesus' peaceable Kingdom looks like in our day and how we can partner together to live that out. We are still looking for a venue for this training but will update you all ASAP.

"...what brought me a sense of peace was when we started singing worship songs - declaring God's love, God's light, God's peace."

Our apprentice, Jason, created this video for Mennonite Action, reflecting on both anxiety and excitement as we prepare for our public worship service this Saturday. Perhaps you can relate?

Whatever you may be carrying - be it worry, anxiety, fear, or joy, confidence, excitement - we hope you can come partake in Saturday's worship, as we stand for peace in unity.

This past weekend, we had our Art Build for our action this coming Saturday! We're looking forward to worshipping God by singing songs, lamenting together, and standing for justice.

For the public worship service, we'll be bringing one of our favorite songs, May Your Kingdom Come by Tom Wuest, that has been really resonating with us in this season:

For the hungry, we cry out for your mercy
For the hurting, we cry out for your mercy
Come Jesus come

May your kingdom come on earth
As it is in heaven
Come Lord come

Come out to the corner of Market St and Church St this Saturday, March 8, at 10:30am, to join us!

God’s Love Knows No Borders Protest and Action
March 8, 10:30am, corner of Market St and Church St
Organized by San Francisco Mennonite congregations

During the months of February and March, Mennonites from across the country are taking action - through public worship services - to proclaim that God’s love knows no borders! On Saturday, March 8, Mennonite Action Bay Area invites you to join us as we witness to this truth!

Mennonite and Anabaptist communities have a 500-year tradition of vocally opposing the marriage of religious authority and state authority. Our allegiance is to God, our charge is to love our neighbor, and our neighbor is not defined by national borders.

We ask: is the immigrant, the stranger, the oppressed, the refugee, the prisoner to blame for our country’s current divisions and strife? Or is it the rich, the politicians, the emperors, those who hoard wealth and use their power for violence, coercion, and domination, who have created the divides we now struggle to traverse?

We are meeting at a train station, a place where people come and go freely, to honor migration as a human right. We also recognize we are on occupied Ramaytush-speaking Ohlone land, and lament our complicity in land theft and genocide, as we stand with the people of Gaza and the West Bank who are committed to staying on their ancestral land.

As followers of Jesus - who was a refugee child escaping genocide and a Palestinian Jew living under occupation - we are deeply troubled by the state violence directed at our vulnerable neighbors in the Bay Area and across the world.

We believe our liberation and safety are tied together with our neighbors, near and far. Our tax dollars pay for bombs that drop on children living in Gaza, and ICE raids that deport our immigrant sisters and brothers, tearing families apart. We say no to this violence and stand with our neighbors who are targeted.

We call on fellow Christians, people of faith, and others to speak out and to act with us - boldly stating that God’s Love Knows No Borders. Are you a Christian, a person of faith, or simply a person who cannot look away from the pain and the harm that our government is inflicting upon the vulnerable? We invite you to join us in prayerful public action on March 8 at 10:30 am in San Francisco.

Friends, we're excited to co-sponsor an event with the theme: Bearing Witness to Grief: Climate Collapse, Resistance, and Grounded Hope. We'll gather with other Christians to reflect on a paper by Ched and Elaine Myers and share stories of creative lament and hopeful action.

This is an in-person event that will take place on November 2, from 9 to 3 p.m. As a Christian who cares about the climate, we'd love to have you join the conversation.

What if we could reckon with climate collapse in the company of God’s people, find gospel partnership, and learn hopeful repentance?
