DAY 57 - LUKE 13

Highlighted Verse: “And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?” (Luke 13:16)

Thought: While Jesus had compassion for multitudes regardless of their backgrounds, He especially had compassion for covenantal members—those who had faith like Abraham. Notice how her infirmity is spoken of as a work of Satan. Jesus came to destroy Satan’s work (1 John 3:8). If we ever are bound by an infirmity the first thing we should do is go to the elders of the church and have them anoint us with oil and pray a prayer of faith over us (James 5:14-15). We should come with expectation that the Lord desires to straighten us out and bring healing just like he did for this daughter of Abraham.

DAY 56 - LUKE 12

Highlighted Verse: “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15)

Thought: In this chapter Jesus speaks a lot about our possessions. The Gospel of Luke in general focuses more on the poor than any of the other Gospels. Jesus cares deeply that we are not controlled by the love of money and that we seek to help those in need. We need to “be on guard” against covetousness—it regularly seeks ways to creep into our lives and grab hold of our heart.

DAY 55 - LUKE 11

Highlighted Verse: “ If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13)

Thought: Jesus was an itinerant preacher who went around preaching through all the cities and villages in Israel. Many times He would preach something similar but put a different twist on His message. For instance, on another occasion He said, “how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him” (Matt. 7:11). Our Father wants to give us “good things” and the best possible thing He can give us is the Holy Spirit. He gives us Himself! All we need to do is ask.

DAY 54 - LUKE 10

Highlighted Verse: “And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to His teaching.” (Luke 10:39)

Thought: It is essential for a Christian to simply sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to Him. To open our Bible and read with humility expecting God to speak to our hearts and build us up in the faith. To be silent and prayer and listen for the voice of the Good Shepherd. All other healthy Christian acts of service flow from this essential activity.

DAY 53 - LUKE 9

Highlighted Verse: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

Thought: Jesus calls on us to “daily” take up our cross. Dying to self is a daily decision. Following Jesus is a daily decision. God does not simply desire for us to have had some spiritual surrender in the past, rather, He wants us to have an ongoing surrender to Him each and every day.
