Highlighted Verse: “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32-33)

Thought: These words of Jesus are thrilling, challenging, and sobering. What we do with Jesus has ultimate significance. Many Christians have had such a strong conviction of the truth of these words that they have chosen to be martyrs rather than deny Jesus. When Polycarp of Smyrna was burned at the stake in the second century for his faith his last words were, “For eighty-six years I have served him, and he has done me no wrong. How can I blaspheme my King who saved me?” When Paul Miki was crucified in Japan in the sixteenth century his last words were, “I tell you plainly: there is no other way of salvation except the way of Christ.” In the twinkling of an eye these men went from excruciating pain to eternal glory and pleasures forevermore, and their witness caused thousands of others to confess Christ before men.

Live In A Manner Worthy Of The Gospel

Your conduct should align with the gospel. When we live worthy of the Good News about Jesus—His atoning death, resurrection, and forgiveness—our lives become united and a testimony to His power. As we have a united approach to what God has done our witness becomes even more effective. We together live in a manner worthy of the Gospel.

DAY 9 - MATTHEW 9

Highlighted Verse: “Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.’” (Matthew 9:37)

Thought: Have you ever seen a tree with spoiled fruit all over the ground? Where no one bothered to take the time to harvest the fruit and enjoy it? This is what our world is like. People have fallen, are weary, and are rotting on the inside with no direction or purpose in life. They need someone who values them. Someone who will bring them good news of what Jesus has done for them. We can be that person.

DAY 8 - MATTHEW 8

Highlighted Verse: “Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them.” (Matthew 8:14-15)

Thought: This is likely not the first time Jesus had met Peter’s mother-in-law. Seeing that Jesus had already conducted much ministry throughout Galilee, and Peter had been right by Jesus’s side, she probably already had some level of relationship with Him (Matt. 4:23). I love how Jesus is the one who notices she is sick. And His response to seeing her that way was to initiate contact. To go and touch her hand. That touch was more than just a healing touch. It signified Jesus’s love and compassion. May we be like Jesus and initiate contact with friends who are not well. May we have expectation that the love of God will flow and that they will be encouraged and brought back to health.

We will be diving into an exceedingly powerful passage about Christ's descent from the Highest Heavens to the death of a slave on a cross. A passage that seeks to instill not only of the message of the Gospel into our hearts, and what Christ has done FOR us, but also shows us how Christ wants to live THROUGH us. We too have the same mind that Christ has. And that means we can walk in humility and love, and have a greater unity in the body of Christ!

DAY 7 - MATTHEW 7

Highlighted Verse: “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12)

Thought: This verse is often called the Golden Rule. We should treat others the way we want to be treated. Jesus says this is the essence of Old Testament ethical teaching. Just as we want to be treated with love, kindness, fairness, and respect, so we should treat others that way. We should not hypocritically judge others (7:1-5). We should be willing to help those who come to us with a need (7:9-10). Before we act a certain way toward people we should in humility think, ‘Would I want someone to treat me this way?’

DAY 6 - MATTHEW 6

Highlighted Verse: “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:9-10)

Thought: Do you follow the outline Jesus gave for prayer? Do you begin your prayer time with humble adoration? Getting in a place where you are dependent on the Father in Heaven and setting apart who He is as holy in your life? Do you ask for His will to be done in your life? For the ways of His kingdom and of Heaven to be done in our world? When we incorporate these things into the beginning of our prayers, before turning to personal requests and supplications, our hearts are tuned aright. We become aware that our Father already knows what we need and so our requests are placed in His hands with heightened faith and expectation that He will take care of us and knows what is best for us.

God Uses Our Difficult Seasons In Beautiful Ways

How did Paul’s imprisonment turn out for the furtherance of the Gospel? First, the whole Imperial Guard (9,000 soldiers) became aware of the Gospel because of his imprisonment! Second, Christians were inspired by what had happened to him to boldly share their faith. God uses are difficult seasons in beautiful ways!

DAY 5 - MATTHEW 5

Highlighted Verse: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:43-45)

Thought: Mankind was originally created in God’s image and likeness (Gen. 1:27). We were meant to imitate God, to mirror Him. But when we succumbed to sin our nature was perverted. We became a distorted image. We began to act in many ways that are contrary to God’s character. A fully sinless man was needed who could show us the Father again. We find this person in Jesus. He “is the image of the invisible God” (Col. 1:15). So what does Jesus do? He demonstrates the love of God. He dies for the ungodly and sinners. He reconciles the enemies of God back to Himself through His heroic act of self-sacrificial love on the cross (Rom. 5:6-10). The Christian is called to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh” (Rom. 13:14). They have their image renewed in Christ and they are called to “put on the new self, created to be like God” (Eph. 4:24). Because we are new creation and filled with the Spirit, we are empowered to be like our Father in heaven. To return love for hate, blessings for curses, and prayers for those who spitefully use and persecute us. We are called to live the cruciform life—for that is the God kind of life. To live as fully restored image of God bearers.
