The Awesome Miracle of the Virgin Mary and the Snakes!!!
A miracle is said to take place every year in Greece on August 15, dating back to 1705, on the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Virgin Mary, the Theotokos. This phenomenon is broadcast live on Greek television so that people throughout the country can witness it.
There is a convent on the island of Kefalonia in western Greece. In 1705, Turkish pirates approached the convent intending to plunder it and assault the nuns. The nuns fervently raised their prayers to the Virgin Mary, asking her to intervene and save them.
Indeed, the Virgin Mary answered their prayers and sent snakes to the convent. As soon as the pirates entered, they found the convent filled with snakes everywhere. Terrified and panic-stricken, they fled and left the convent alone.
From that year until the present day, these snakes are said to appear at the convent around the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, yet they harm no one.
These snakes have a small marking on their heads in the shape of a cross, and their tongues are also said to resemble a cross. They appear in and around the church courtyard, on the walls, and on the bell tower.
The snakes also appear during the Divine Liturgy and are harmless. During the celebrations, they crawl upon the icon of the Virgin Mary as though offering her their veneration. They also crawl toward the priest and the faithful present without harming anyone.
As soon as the Divine Liturgy concludes on August 15, the snakes disappear again into the surrounding wilderness. They cannot be found again until the following year.
