“Sing to the Lord a new song!” [Psalm 96:1; 98:1; Isaiah 42:10]. “He put a new song in my mouth.” [Psalm 40:3]. God has given us music to elevate our praise of Him and hymns and songs to teach us the faith. We are familiar with many hymns. Before the hymns we know so well were written there were the songs of salvation in the Bible. Some of them we know as we sing them in worship. In Lent we will rejoice along with the saints of old in seeing that these “old” songs are the very songs of salvation, the “new” song He has put into our mouth. Each Wednesday in Lent we will be enriched through six of these songs: the Song of Moses, the Song of Hannah, the Song of Mary, the Song of Zechariah, the Song of Simeon, and the Song of the Church. The last four have come to be known as the Magnificat, the Benedictus, the Nunc Dimittis, and the Te Deum. In these songs we will rejoice in the salvation God has given us in His Son in His death and resurrection.

Wednesday, February 18, 6:30 p.m. ~ The Song of Moses (Exodus 15:1–18)
Wednesday, February 25, 6:30 p.m. ~ The Song of Hannah (1 Samuel 2:1–10)
Wednesday, March 4, 6:30 p.m. ~ The Song of Mary (Luke 1:46–55)
Wednesday, March 11, 6:30 p.m. ~ The Song of Zechariah (Luke 1:67–79)
Wednesday, March 18, 6:30 p.m. ~ The Song of Simeon (Luke 2:28–32)
Wednesday, March 25, 6:30 p.m. ~ The Song of the Church (Revelation 5:11–13)

On the Way: Living This Life for the Next
We are on the way. In this life we live in Christ. We have true life even as we are waiting to live life in its fullness in the life to come. During Lent we will ponder what makes up our life in this world so that we may be ready for the life to come. We are on the way because Jesus has gone the way before us—to the cross, and from the empty tomb. He suffered for the sin of the world and in Him we have eternal life. We invite you to come and learn with us what it means to live in this life.
