Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker, who was held hostage at Beth Israel in Colleyville, TX, posted this reflection just a few hours ago. We are grateful that all of the hostages were saved and for the efforts of all those who aided in this effort.

Rabbi Charlie Cyrton-Walker:
I am thankful and filled with appreciation for
All of the vigils and prayers and love and support,
All of the law enforcement and first responders who cared for us,
All of the security training that helped save us.
I am grateful for my family.
I am grateful for the CBI Community, the Jewish Community, the Human Community.
I am grateful that we made it out.
I am grateful to be alive.

Dear Temple Emanu-El,

I write with a heavy heart as we monitor the situation at Congregation Beth Israel, a reform synagogue in Colleyville, Texas, where reportedly four people, including my colleague, Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker, have been taken hostage by a gunman. From news reports, first responders are on the scene.

I want to invite you to join me in a brief prayer vigil at 4 PM where we can pray for the safe release of the individuals at Congregation Beth Israel without injury or loss of life. You can join me on this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89421063199

We pray for a time when all synagogues and all places of worship can be places of safety for all to gather in community and in prayer.

L'shalom,

Rabbi Benj

Come join us for the next drum circle on Tuesday, December 14 at 3 pm!

The drum circle has been meeting for several months in the backyard of a congregant who lives near the synagogue. It’s nice to hear how our rhythms sound outside with the birds humming. Our leader, Leanne Pearl, leads us in a warm-up and at times we drum with our individual rhythms. There is a lot of group participation.
We have fun and take our minds off our “to-do” lists.

Come try it out! There is no one way to drum. Drumming has a life of its own. Bring a friend.
There is a $10 fee per person. For any questions, please contact Bonnie at [email protected]

It's the final night of Hanukkah, hope you had a great holiday full of good food and quality time with loved ones. As we light the candles for the last time count take in the hanukkiah's light and take stock of all the blessings this season has brought.
