This was a rare year: Yesterday, we celebrated Ash Wednesday on Valentine's Day! Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of our 40-day sojourn with Jesus in the wilderness, as we take advantage of the traditional Lenten practices of prayer, fasting (our attempt to ditch unhealthy habits) & almsgiving (our efforts to more generously share of ourselves with others), to grow in our relationship with God and others. And Valentine's Day is a celebration of love & fidelity. How appropriate that we focused on love as the ashes on our foreheads reminded us of the brevity of life!
