This beautiful little hymn fuses the magic of reminiscence in the both the words and the tune. And yet, it’s so relevant for this very moment, isn’t it? How easy it is to speed through the day and forget Love is right there - ready, willing to companion, offer rich meaning, be both motive and guide.

Hal H. Hopson wrote these lyrics inspired by the message of a somewhat famous scripture text often read at weddings - I Corinthians 13. The tune could be familiar if you’ve ever heard The Water is Wide, a classic, I happened to learn, hearing James Taylor sing it. That tune is an old traditional English tune called O Waly, Waly.

Remember that awesome classic rock song Stand by Me? “When the night has come, and the land is dark… so darling, darling, Stand by me…!” Well, it was actually inspired by this hymn from 1905! Kinda rad, huh? :)
