Father Sebastian’s New Appointment

Dear friends of Saint Brigid,

Bishop McElroy appointed Father Sebastian Bukenya to begin ministry as an associate pastor at our parish on April 1, 2016. This past week Bishop Michael Pham appointed Father Sebastian as pastor of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in Julian, effective this coming July 1.

For the past nine years, Father Sebastian has served our community well with his gifts of faith, joy, and the heart of a shepherd. He exhibits an ability to relate well to people of all ages and different cultures. He has certainly made an impact across the spectrum of our parish—with children, young people, young adults, families, and seniors. I personally have appreciated his responsiveness in serving those who are sick or homebound. I know we will miss his joyful presence in our midst.

Many years ago, Bishop Brom told me that a priest has a significant impact in shaping the community in which he serves. He also added that the reverse is true—the parish community has a significant impact in shaping the priest who serves them. I join you in giving thanks to God for the many blessings we have experienced through the presence and ministry of Father Sebastian for the past nine years. And I give thanks to you as a faith community for the way in which you have shaped him to have the heart of a shepherd in his ministry and have equipped him for his new assignment as a pastor. And, now you will have another reason to visit Julian besides pie!

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Steve Callahan

The Holy Hour for Peace offers an opportunity for us to reflect, pray, and unite, fostering an environment where compassion and understanding can grow. During the Holy Hour, we dedicate our prayers to pursue reconciliation and love. By doing so, we hope that such efforts will nurture a deeper sense of reliance on God to help guide all people toward a future marked by empathy, justice, and lasting peace.”

Please join us this Friday, February 6, 7–8 pm, as we pray for peace in solidarity with parishes across our diocese and the United States. nightWATCH is an opportunity to pray in the Presence of the Lord (Eucharistic Adoration) in the candlelit church with periods of silence intermingled with reflections and soft music. Bring your family and friends!
