This weekend we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord with the final chapter from Saint Matthew’s Gospel - The Commissioning of the Disciples.* Jesus last command was “to go and make disciples of all nations.” But what makes a disciple? Are you a disciple?
Using AI, being a disciple involves several core characteristics:
1. Learning and Following
The term "disciple" translates to a pupil or apprentice. It means studying Jesus' words, primarily found in the Bible, and adhering to His teachings over all else.
2. Lifelong Transformation
Discipleship is a continuous process of personal change. Disciples rely on the Holy Spirit to transform their character, actions, and thoughts to become more like Jesus.
3. Obedience and Self-Denial
Jesus called His followers to put Him first in all things, which often requires sacrifice, humility, and self-denial.
4. Joining the Mission
A true disciple doesn't just learn for themselves. They are committed to Jesus' mission to love others, serve the community, and spread His gospel.
Which characteristics do you posses? If not all characteristics can you be called a disciple?
