Correctional Populations in the United States, 2015
At yearend 2015, an estimated 6,741,400
persons were under the supervision of
U.S. adult correctional systems, about
115,600 fewer persons than yearend 2014
(

figure 1). This was the first time since 2002
(6,730,900) that the correctional population fell
below 6.8 million. The population declined by
1.7% during 2015, which was the largest decline
since 2010 (down 2.1%). Additionally, the decrease
was a change from a 3-year trend of stable annual
rate declines of about 0.6% between 2012 and 2014. About 1 in 37 adults in the United States was under
some form of correctional supervision at the end
of 2015. This was the lowest rate observed since
1994, when about 1 in 38 adults (1.6 million fewer
persons) were under correctional supervision in
the nation (not shown). Our ministry’s goal is to reach inmates and their families with the hope that can only be found in Jesus Christ. We reach inmates by assisting with Sunday services in prisons and jails all around San Diego, praying for them and writing them letters of encouragement. We reach their families through fellowship, prayer and activities that spreads God’s Love. Prison/Jail outreach

The Prison in Mazatlan Mexico allows church organizations to come in and build a church for the prisoners. As we were walking to the location where we were going to share God's Word, we passed by a Catholic Church that they built in the prison. Very clean, very nice. If the Catholic Church can do it why can't we?

Do you show grace and mercy to those who frequently make bad decisions and fall down in sin? Are you an encouraging person? Do you listen more than you speak? Do you have a good working knowledge of the Bible? Do you have a strong interest in bringing people to the Lord? Are you able to share with others how God has guided and blessed you in hard times? Prison Ministry is not easy, but it is a blessing when you see broken men and women receive the Lord. That is what we are called to do. Pictures of our trip to Mazatlan in May 2024.

Let's keep the group of 19 people along with our Home Bro. Rick Chriss as they continue in their mission to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Africa prisons. May God use them and protect them as they enter the prison system reaching the hearts of many who are chain bound. May the Lord bring them home safe 🙏

Kenya, Africa Prison System
The prison system in Kenya is one of the worst prison systems in the world. Prison conditions are gruesome. Hygiene is very low and violence is very high among inmates. Starvation and a lack of medical care are also very common throughout prisons in Kenya.

The current prisoners’ population in Kenya Africa stands at 54,000 of whom 48% are pre-trial detainees while the remaining ones are sentenced prisoners. The staff establishment stands at approximately 22,000 comprising of uniformed officers and auxiliary staff.

Our Mission
Pen Pals Ministry is committed to the work of caring about each of the inmates who reach out to us through letters. Our mission to provide each inmate with at least one Christian friend who will write regularly and minister to his/her life sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the Lord leads.

March 14 - 26 One of our Prison Ministry Leaders Rick Chriss will be joining a group of 19 volunteers leaving on a trip to Kenya, Africa on a mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the following prisons:
Homabay Prison
Kehancha Prison
Migori Prison
Kisumu Women's Prison

Calling on all Prison Ministry Leaders and Volunteers to join us in prayer and fasting this coming Saturday March 9th starting at 6pm thru Sunday March 10th for safe travel and protection over this group as they journey through Africa sharing what the Lord commissioned us to do, to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to many who are bound in these prisons.

Prison Ministry weekend - serving the San Diego Juvenile Transition Campus.

The teenage years can be difficult and lonely as most teens struggle to fit in and take on new responsibilities. Media and peers constantly bombard youth with the message that they are never good enough and will never measure up. No wonder most teens end up hopeless and lonely! Teens can use as much encouragement and love as we can give them!
