As we honor Labor Day, we invite you to pause and offer up the following prayer:

A Blessing for Workers and All Seeking Work
Blessed are you, ever-creating God,
in your image, our lives are made;
in your glory, we offer all the work of our hearts and hands and minds.
Blessed are you, O God, now and forever!
Blessed are you whose work is repaid,
for by your work, and by the payment you receive
your lives and the lives of others around you and around the world are blessed.
We thank God for you day by day.
Blessed are you whose work is unpaid,
who offer what you can to enrich the lives of others,
through time, talents, skill, strength, and love.
We praise God for your generous labor!
Blessed are you who seek work but have not found it,
or whose work now is not yet what it may be
yet still you seek, that your gifts may be shared more fully.
We praise God for your diligent seeking and pray you may soon find!
Yours is the glory in their labors.
Yours be the glory in all our lives, in Jesus' name.
Amen.

What does love look like? ❤️

On Sunday, we reflected on what we really mean when we talk about love—not simply as a feeling or a word, but as something we put into practice.

Last month, our First Church community had the opportunity to put that love into action at Cherokee Point Elementary School. Together, our congregation donated backpacks and school supplies for students and helped cook for their back-to-school BBQ.

It was a simple way to say: we see you, we care about you, and we’re glad you’re part of our community.

Because love looks like showing up.
Love looks like sharing what we have.
Love looks like making sure our neighbors know they belong.

Where have you seen love in action recently? Tell us in the comments. ❤️

Love stoops low. Love serves. Love connects. And sometimes, love is really uncomfortable.

In Sunday’s sermon, Rev. Trudy shared her reflections on Jesus washing the disciples’ feet—and what that humble act reveals about the kind of love Jesus calls us to embody:

“Love puts aside pretense, dismantles barriers, disregards assumptions for the sake of connection.”

Watch this clip from Sunday’s worship service and reflect with us: What does it mean to love like Jesus?

Our First Church San Diego family is growing. Join us in welcoming our newest members: Nasira, Tamara, Joe, and Craig—we’re so glad you’ve joined us!

You don’t have to be a member to belong here at First Church. But if you ever do say yes to membership, what you’re really saying is: “I like what you’re doing. I want to help. Let’s do this together.”

In our church, membership is a promise to: Pray for one another, show up for each other, practice love and justice, and keep growing (even with questions and doubts).
