Pope Leo has designated a Year of St. Francis from January 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027, to celebrate the Eighth Centenary of the passage of St. Francis of Assisi.

The Apostolic Penitentiary issued a decree granting the Plenary Indulgence under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father), which can also be applied in the form of suffrage for the souls in Purgatory.

Conditions for receiving the Indulgence (for oneself or for the deceased)
– Sacramental confession to be in God’s grace (in the eight days before or after);
– Participation in Mass and Eucharistic Communion;
– To visit in the form of a pilgrimage any Franciscan conventual church or place of worship dedicated to St. Francis anywhere in the world, where one renews one’s profession of faith, through the recitation of the Creed, to reaffirm one’s Christian identity;
– The recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, to reaffirm the dignity of children of God, received in Baptism;
– To pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, to reaffirm belonging to the Church, whose foundation and visible center of unity is the Roman Pontiff.

Today, we consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Parishes and individuals around the country are encouraged to join the U.S. Catholic bishops in this historic occasion, beginning with this Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus written for the consecration.

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus: You know the longings of our hearts, and you desire that we enjoy friendship with you. From your pierced side, you have poured out the wellspring of life, for which we thirst. Your heart burns with a love for all people to return to a right relationship with you.

We celebrate the abundant gifts you have given this nation, founded on the self-evident truths that our Creator has endowed all people with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We make reparation for the offenses against you and against human dignity that have taken place in this nation. May our hearts be united to yours, so that our families and communities enjoy peace and happiness; may broken relationships be reconciled, injustices repaired, and the wounds of our land be healed.

May your holy Catholic Church serve as a sign, pointing all people to your infinite love. O Desire of Nations and Center of History, we ask you to bless these United States of America. Who live and reign with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

We are gathered today at Guardian Angels Parish with catechists from the El Cajon Deanery to share our faith, struggles, and hopes. We extend our gratitude to Jane Alfano for sharing her inspiring testimony of faith, hope, and unity, and to our faithful Directors of Religious Education for hosting this day for their Catechists. Thank you for walking with them!!!

We are thankful to Fr. Lalo Jara, OFM, for leading our End-of-the-Year Retreat. Catechists and parish leaders joined Fr. Lalo to discern the calling to be Echoes of Faith: Called to Serve as Mirrors of the Cross. Fr. Lalo, by loving others, we reconnect with God.

Rooted in Franciscan spirituality, this retreat invites directors, faith formation coordinators, and catechists to renew their ministry as a living reflection of Christ’s love. Inspired by the image of the Mirror of the Cross, participants will pause to pray and reflect on how their daily service echoes Jesus’ humility, compassion, and self‑giving presence. Following the example of St. Francis, ministers are invited to embrace their vocation as a path of ongoing conversion—forming others while being continually shaped by the Gospel they share.
