There’s a lot happening at TIS this weekend — join us!

✡️ Friday, June 5
🚸 Tot Shabbat at 5:00 p.m.: music, stories, songs, challah, and community for our youngest friends and their families.
✨ Kabbalat Shabbat begins at 6:15 p.m.: welcome Shabbat together in song, prayer, and community.

✡️ Saturday, June 6
✨ Shabbat Morning Services at 9:30 a.m.: join us for prayer, Torah, community, and kiddush lunch following services.

🔯 Sunday, June 7
🚸 Let’s Play! at 10:00 a.m.: join us on the Silverman Preschool playground for a fun morning of play and connection.
🚴 TIS Men’s Club Bike Ride: join fellow riders for this month’s group ride.
🏄 Surf’s Up Sisterhood Bash at 6:00 p.m.: celebrate summer with an evening of community, fun, and Sisterhood spirit.

Join us for Volunteer Shabbat on Friday, June 12 at 6:15 p.m. — and RSVP by Monday, June 8 at 10:00 a.m.!

We’ll gather for a joyous Kabbalat Shabbat followed by a complimentary Shabbat BBQ dinner honoring the TIS volunteers whose dedication, generosity, and spirit help strengthen our community throughout the year.

Enjoy hot dogs, burgers, and a veggie option as we celebrate together with gratitude, good food, and community.

If you’d like to make a donation in honor of our volunteers, you’ll be able to do so when making your reservation.

L’hitraot, Alon: An evening celebrating our Shinshin is on Wednesday, June 3rd at 6pm!

Friends never say goodbye: we say l’hitraot… until we meet again.

Our TIS community has been deeply enriched by our incredible Shinshin, Alon Sachs. With his creativity, warmth, and endless enthusiasm, Alon has touched the lives of students, families, and congregants across our entire community.

As Alon prepares to head to Camp Mountain Chai this summer, we invite you to join us for a joyful evening in his honor featuring some of his favorite things, starting with breakfast for dinner! We’ll also enjoy music, singing, and ruach led by Alon and Rabbi Hanan.

Whether you’re part of Torah School, CJH, Silverman Preschool, or simply part of our wider TIS family, this is a chance to come together, celebrate Alon, and wish him well on his next adventure.

Tifereth Israel Sisterhood is excited to launch Sunset Shuk, a community night market inspired by the vibrant open-air markets of the Middle East and Israel.

We are currently seeking vendors for this inaugural event and would especially love to feature members of our own community alongside local artisans, makers, small businesses, and kosher food vendors from across San Diego.

After counting 49 days from Passover to Shavuot, we arrive at a holiday that celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, as well as the ancient spring harvest season.

Shavuot is traditionally marked through learning, gathering in community, and enjoying delicious dairy foods 🍰

Here are a few meaningful ways to celebrate:
📖 Study Torah and explore Jewish learning
👭 Gather with community (and sometimes stay up all night)
🐮 Enjoy favorite Shavuot dairy dishes (ice cream, cheesecake, blintzes... yum!)
✡️ Reflect on revelation, renewal, and the traditions we continue to carry forward together

Wishing our entire TIS community a cheesy and meaningful Shavuot (and hope to see everyone tonight - and tomorrow - to learn together and celebrate).

Thursday: Tikun Leil Shavuot: Everyone Has a Story ✨🌾

Join us at 7pm for a meaningful evening of learning, reflection, community, and celebration as we gather for Tikun Leil Shavuot and commemorate the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai.

This year’s program explores questions of choice, belonging, identity, and covenant through personal journeys and shared conversation.

The evening will feature:
📖 Engaging learning and discussion
🕯 Holiday services
🍰 A dairy reception in the spirit of Shavuot tradition

We’ll hear from Furkan Safak, who chose Judaism and will share his deeply personal journey, along with community members Sharon Wilson and Phil Johnson, reflecting on supporting Jewish homes and families with care and commitment.

All are welcome. We’d love to celebrate Shavuot.
