Cellist Lorie Kirkell is a San Diego treasure whose musical background spans multiple genres, even touching the written word in this piece—“Inspired by Hymn for the Hurting,”Amanda Gorman’s moving poem.
Published in the NYT in the aftermath of the Uvalde, TX school shooting that took the lives of 21 people—including 19 children—the poem’s words moved Lorie, a longtime friend of Westminster, to write and share this music with us at worship.
Westminster joins countless people of many faiths and none in demanding action on behalf of the 19,000 people murdered or injured in mass shootings in the U.S.
