The Hiking Ministry’s August adventure took us to Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. The hot and humid weather kept the turnout low, but on our 3.2-mile journey, we enjoyed worship with Vinnie and Grace, ocean breezes and a wonderful sunset.

It’s been a tough summer for hiking as the hot and humid weather resulted in smaller turnouts for our 3 most popular coastal hikes. Hopefully, the weather will cool down in September and we’ll be able to continue to hike on the many wonderful trails in San Diego County.

We had an awesome hike Sunday! The Hiking Ministry visited the San Elijo Lagoon for an adventure to Annie’s Canyon. We started our journey at the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center, headed east to cross the lagoon via the recently-constructed footbridge, before making our way to Annie’s Canyon.

The slot canyon wasn’t busy, so we were able to enjoy the experience without rushing and there was no traffic jam at the ladder. We took a group photo at the overlook and headed down by the water for a time of worship.

After the hike, it was time for $1.39 fish tacos at at El Pueblo Taco Shop. There we enjoyed a time of extended fellowship and was a great end to a great hike.

The Hiking Ministry made its annual trip to Torrey Pines State Beach for a 5-mile adventure on Saturday. The weather was warm, overcast and unusually humid, which resulted in a smaller than usual turnout.

We altered our course and hiked the beach first as the tide was quickly rising. This worked out perfect as we reached the stairs to the preserve just in time as the waves came up to the cliffs.

We hiked up the Broken Hill Trail to Broken Hill Overlook, where we had a great views and a time of fellowship and worship, before returning to our starting point at North Beach.

Our second hike of June saw us return to Mission Trails Regional Park to take on North Fortuna Mountain, altitude 1,293 feet. We started on the Corte Playa Catalina Trail, hiked through the Rim and Shepherd Ridge Trails before our final ascent up the North Fortuna Trail. Total hike was 4.2 miles with 869-foot elevation gain. We had a great time of worship and fellowship while taking in great views of God’s creation from the summit.

It was a warm and beautiful Sunday afternoon as the Hiking Ministry journeyed to the highest point in the City of San Diego, 1,591 feet, at Cowles Mountain. It was 83 degrees at game time, but hiking the backside of the mountain via the Barker Trail provided protection from the sun and allowed for a much cooler return trip via the Barker Service Road. We had a good time of fellowship and worship at the summit and the hike featured an elevation gain of 860 feet.
