This Sunday at 10 am, we gather for worship with the sermon “Making All Things New,” based on Revelation 21:1–6a.

Revelation offers a vision of a new heaven and a new earth, where God dwells among the people, wipes away every tear, and death is no more. Far from being a prediction of the end of the world, this passage was written to inspire hope and courage in the midst of life's deepest challenges.

This week, we will reflect on why conversations and rituals around death matter—not only as we prepare for the end of life, but as practices that help us live more fully, faithfully, and intentionally in the present.

Our service will include a Time of Remembrance for Ron Krause, giving thanks for his life and legacy among us. We will also celebrate a joyful new beginning as we welcome Jacob Rewa, our new Director of Music and Accompanist, to the POVUCC community.

Join us as we hold together remembrance and hope, grief and gratitude, mortality and resurrection, trusting that God is with us through every season of life.

📍 Join us in person or via Zoom.
All are welcome—always.

This Sunday at 10 am, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, remembering the gift and movement of the Holy Spirit among God’s people.

In John 7:37–39, Jesus speaks of living water flowing from those who believe. In John 20:19–24, the risen Christ enters a room full of fear, offering peace and breathing the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. Together, these scriptures remind us that the Spirit meets us where we are—and continues to call us outward in love, courage, and hope.

We are grateful to welcome Rev. Dr. Nancy Conklin as our guest preacher this week. Her sermon, “The Spirit Still Flows,” will invite us to reflect on how the Spirit continues to move among the church today: renewing us, strengthening us, and drawing us more deeply into community.

This Sunday, we will also receive the Strengthen the Church Offering, supporting the growth and renewal of congregations and ministries throughout the wider United Church of Christ.

❤️ We invite everyone to wear red as we gather to celebrate Pentecost together.

📍 Join us in person or via Zoom.
All are welcome—always.

We are grieved and horrified by the shooting today at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

We stand with our Muslim neighbors who are reeling, overwhelmed, and afraid tonight. We pray for the families and community of those who were killed, along with all who were harmed, frightened, or re-traumatized by this violence.

We recommit ourselves to being people who love our neighbors, and who stand in solidarity with our fellow worshipping communities and their sacred spaces. No one should ever feel afraid to worship, and to gather in community.

More ways to stand with those most impacted will be shared as they arise. For now, we commit ourselves to loving action in great and small ways, to counter Islamophobia and hate, and pray with those in fear and grief tonight.

We are horrified and deeply grieved by today's shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Imam Taha Hassane is a friend to our congregation, and our prayers surround him, the ICSD community, and all those impacted by today's senseless violence. We pray especially for the loved ones of those who were killed.

We send our love to our Muslim neighbors and recommit ourselves to the work of justice and peace. We will share more about ways we can show up and offer our support. For now, if you'd like to donate to the ICSD Victim and Family Support Fund, the link is below.

This Sunday at 10 am, we observe Mental Health Sunday in the United Church of Christ with the sermon “Everybody Hurts,” based on 1 Peter 5:6–11.

May is both AAPI Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, and this Sunday we take time to speak openly and honestly about the realities of anxiety, suffering, and mental health challenges that touch every community.

In 1 Peter, we hear both truth and promise: acknowledgment that life can be difficult, and reassurance that God will “restore, support, strengthen, and establish” us.

Too often, mental health struggles are met with silence or stigma—even within the church. Together, we’ll reflect on how faith communities can embody God’s care through compassion, support, and hope, reminding one another that no one has to carry their burdens alone.

📍 Join us in person or via Zoom.
All are welcome—always.

This Sunday at 10:00 am, we gather for worship with the sermon “To An Unknown God,” based on Acts 17:22–31.

As Paul walks through Athens, he encounters an altar inscribed “to an unknown god.” Speaking to people surrounded by many beliefs and philosophies, Paul reflects on the mystery of God—what can be known, and what always remains beyond human understanding.

In our own world, filled with uncertainty and competing voices, this story speaks deeply. Faith is not only about having answers. It is also about trust, humility, curiosity, and openness to the presence of God in ways we may not fully grasp.

Join us as we explore together the space between knowledge and mystery, and consider how God continues to meet us there.

📍 Join us in person or via Zoom.
All are welcome—always.
