The next community blood drive will take place at the Ascension Catholic Church parking lot on Sunday, May 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You can schedule an appointment by scanning the QR code on the flyer, or by calling 619-400-8251. Walk-ins are also welcome!

WHY SHOULD I DONATE BLOOD? Here are some facts:

· 5M people in the US need blood every year
· One pint of blood can save up to three lives
· An average person has 11 pints of blood; only one pint is drawn when you donate
· Since a pint is a pound, you lose a pound every time you donate
· You can donate blood every 56 days
· About one in seven people entering a hospital need blood
· A pint of blood at a hospital costs around $250-$300
· Every two seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion
· More than 14 tests are performed on each unit of donated blood
· You cannot contract any disease by donating blood
· About three gallons of blood supports the entire nation's blood needs for only one minute
· 37% of the US population are eligible to donate BUT only 5% donate yearly
· Blood cannot be manufactured (not yet anyway)
· It feels great to donate because you saved a life!

To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health. Your photo ID will be required, so please come prepared and arrive hydrated.

Lastly, blood donors will receive an exclusive 2026 Padres Summer Blood Drive t-shirt while supplies last.

Thank you so much for your consideration! Please contact the San Diego Blood Bank at 619-400-8251 if you have additional questions.

The Feast of the Ascension of the Lord, celebrated 40 days after Easter (Sunday observed), commemorates the moment when the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily into heaven (Acts 1:9-11). It is also our Parish Feast Day! 🙏

It marks the completion of His earthly mission and the beginning of His exaltation at the right hand of the Father, where He intercedes for us as our eternal High Priest.

The Ascension is a reminder that heaven is our true home and that Jesus, fully God and fully man, has gone before us to prepare a place for us in the Father’s house.

Through His Ascension, Jesus affirms His divine authority and points to our ultimate destiny.

:: MESSAGE FROM FR. EDWIN ::

Dear Ascension Parishioners:

Last year’s Fiesta was a wonderful success! I hope you have good memories of the event and are looking forward to Fiesta 2026, which will be held June 5 through June 7 — the weekend of the Feast of Corpus Christi.

Our Fiesta serves a two-fold purpose that is vital to the life of our parish: fostering a sense of fellowship in the parish/community and fundraising for our church renovation loan and church maintenance and improvements.

Traditionally, Fiesta sponsorships have provided a significant percentage of the income realized and have covered much of the overhead for the event.

I deeply appreciate your past support of our Fiesta and other sponsorship campaigns. May our beautifully renovated church inspire us in charity once again. Please prayerfully consider supporting this effort.

To donate, we encourage you to use Ascension’s secure online donation website, sdascension.org, or use the link below.

If writing a check, please make it payable to Ascension Parish Fiesta; place into a plain envelope (not a church envelope), and write Fiesta Sponsorship on the envelope or in the “notes” section of the check. Then, mail it or drop it into the mail slot at the church office.

Those who donate by Friday, May 22 will be recognized on the Donor Board at Fiesta. All donors will be recognized in the June 20-21 bulletin.

Lastly, if you have a preference with how your household’s name will appear on the Donor Recognition Board or in the bulletin (e.g., Mr. and Mrs., Dr. and Mrs.), please clearly indicate on the return envelope by/before May 22.

Many blessings,
Fr. Edwin
