Louder Together~
When I arrived at the location around 3 p.m. and saw the light drizzle, I said a quick prayer and asked God to turn off the sprinklers. As more volunteers arrived, we all tried to keep a good attitude, but the steady drizzle of rain for our outdoor event was beginning to slowly cause more concern.
By 4:30, we were all huddled underneath a popup. I had frantically called a few party rental companies in San Diego to see if there was any way we could get a party-size tent in two hours. They all politely said, “no.” So now, as we all stood huddled together watching the rain, we started asking ourselves....
“Do we cancel?”
The drizzle seemed to show no signs of letting up, and as water began to pool in the bottom of the few chairs we had already set up, we also started to ask ourselves….
“Will anyone even show up?”
It was as if God was begging us to only look to Him. In fact, He was demanding that we look to Him with each drop of rain that fell.
So, we all got in a circle and begged God to make it stop. Like children talking to their heavenly Father, we begged God to clear the skies, protect the equipment, and make a way for us to worship that night.
After a wet sound check, Steven and I sat to the side and watched to see if anyone would even come. To our sheer amazement, at about 5:50, people started to arrive. Whenever someone walked in, it felt like a complete and utter shock to us.
We decided that if the rain was still coming down at 6:30, we would switch to our backup plan and have the worship night under the little cover we had by the house.
God heard, and at 6:30 the drizzle stopped, giving us enough time to dry everything off before we started at 7.
My takeaway is this: God wants ALL the glory. Not what we feel like giving to Him; He wants every bit of it. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him (James 1:17), and He wants us to remember that. God ensured that we knew the only way that worship night happened was by His mighty hand.
I think God moved in many hearts that night.
Would you share your story with us?
Please tell us if God spoke to or drew near to you that night.
