Willie Briscoe grew up in Portland, Oregon with his mother, brother and two older sisters. His love for basketball grew along with his size. At age 18, Willie was 6”6’ and headed off to play college basketball at a local Junior college, because his grades were too low to play Division 1. He would play 2 years of junior college basketball and lead his team to a championship in 1989.

He then took a ten year hiatus from school and basketball. During these ten years he worked with youth and spent a majority of his time doing commercials and print work for companies such as Nike, Adidas, and Powerade. He did this work until he became a Christian, and return to basketball and school at Point Loma Nazarene University in 1999. After 2 more years of playing, and 1 year as an assistant basketball coach Willie graduated with a bachelor degree. Willie started a small personal training business in North County San Diego, and for three years provided a steady income for his growing family. It was during this time when Willie was about to open his own gym establishment that he was challenged by his pastor to prayerfully consider what his next move should be and if he was using all of his gifts in the best capacity. After several weeks of prayer and a short term mission trip to Malawi, Hope Leadership Academy (HLA) was launched in 2010.

Willie’s greatest passion is spending time with his beautiful wife Kaci, and their three beautiful children.

Come join us on Saturday March 14th for our next M2 Breakfast

Cory Withrow is an American former professional football center who built a nine‑season career in the National Football League. Born in Spokane, Washington, he developed a passion for football at a young age, and that drive pushed him to pursue the NFL no matter how many times he was rejected. Cory went on to play college football at Washington State University, where he excelled as an offensive lineman.
He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 1999 and later played for the San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams, earning a reputation as a dependable reserve and occasional starter across multiple teams during a highly competitive era.
After retiring from professional football, Cory transitioned into entrepreneurship and founded King’s Craft Coffee Co. in Poway, California, where he continues to build community and lead with the same determination that defined his playing career.

Scott Smith: Care Pastor Emmanuel Faith Community Church, will be leading us in a talk that he has labeled, “Things God has Taught Me from Walking My Dogs.”
Born and raised in Alta Loma, CA, Scott came to San Diego to attend UCSD. After graduating with a degree in Economics and a minor in Political Science, he entered the work world for ten years before entering vocational ministry.
During that time he met and married his wife, Darica, they welcomed their first child into the world, and he earned an M.Div. from Bethel Seminary San Diego. One thing you might not know about him is that he entered college intending to be an attorney and then a judge. (He still reads law books and court transcripts from time to time.)
Scott joined the staff of EFCC in October 2001. Over the years he has provided leadership and oversight to our Life Groups Ministry, Spiritual Maturity Ministry, contemporary worship services, and our Discipleship Ministry. Scott is now serving in the role of Care Pastor and ministering to adults in our congregation.
In his free time, Scott enjoys sports (Anaheim Angels, Dallas Cowboys, Manchester United, L.A. Lakers), watching documentaries and biographies, reading, mowing the lawn, and leading Life Groups.
Scott was deeply involved with The Navigator’s when he was in college. He often says The Navigator’s taught him how to do ministry, while Bethel taught him how to do theology. His pastoral theology and philosophy have been most heavily influenced by Eugene Peterson.
Scott and Darica have three children (Jordan, Jessica and Jada), and have lived in Escondido since 2005.

Jeff Guenzburger is a faithful man of God who is deeply passionate about impacting and improving the lives of people. Jeff currently serves as head chaplain for the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions helping Skip Holtz win back-to-back Championships. His primary focus is leading professional athletes to reach their God-given purpose in every area of their life.

Among his diverse ministry roles, God has used Jeff to aide in addiction recovery, relationship restoration, crisis care, Pastoral guidance in marriage and family relationships, identity issues, and helping those through life transitions. Jeff has an uncanny ability to foster and cultivate meaningful relationships with all those around him, ultimately creating a safe and healthy space for healing.
