Today, we honor the life, sacred legacy, and prophetic ministry of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a servant of God whose faith fueled a movement and whose voice still echoes through generations.

Calvary Baptist Church San Diego, led by our visionary Pastor, Dr. Kevin E. Stafford, is deeply honored to acknowledge Dr. King’s historic visit to Calvary Baptist Church in 1962, where he addressed the costs of prejudice and spoke boldly against racial segregation. His presence within Calvary's sacred walls affirmed the church’s role as a spiritual stronghold and a beacon of justice, truth, and hope.

We also reverently acknowledge Dr. King’s relationship with Rev. Dr. S. M. Lockridge, the longest-standing, God-ordained Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. Their shared commitment to the Gospel, righteousness, and liberation reflected a brotherhood rooted in Christ and a mutual understanding that faith and justice are inseparable.

This moment in our church’s rich history reminds us that Calvary has long stood at the intersection of faith, courage, and community transformation. We are humbled to carry forward this legacy while standing on the shoulders of giants and continuing the work God has entrusted to His people.

The Value of Vision | Pt. 2: Often Looks Appalling

Pastor Kevin E. Stafford taught us vision is essential for the people of God. Without it, things can look unbelievably distorted. Where there is no vision, the people perish—but where God gives vision, there is purpose. What God shows us can feel heavy and unnervingly distressful before it feels hopeful. Vision can be both a burden and a blessing, because once God reveals it, we become responsible for it.

God’s ways don’t always align with our expectations. Sometimes His vision shocks us, stretches us, and even distresses us when we try to understand it through natural thinking. But God is not the author of confusion and His vision is unmistakably distinctive. When clarity feels out of reach, we must lift our eyes beyond what we see.

“I will look to the hills from which comes my help—my help comes from the Lord.”
Because He lives, we can see clearly now.

The Value of Vision – Pt. 1

Vision doesn’t always look appealing at first—but it is always purposeful. In Part 1, we were reminded by Pastor Kevin E. Stafford that God often works in stages to sharpen our sight.

What we see—and how we see it—matters. Sometimes God has to touch us more than once so we can truly see the way He sees.

Sometimes God doesn’t fix everything at once—He reveals it step by step so our vision aligns with His. Don’t settle for partial sight when Jesus desires to make your vision complete.

The Pertinence of Divine Perspective – Proverbs 29:18

Today, we heard a powerful Word brought forth by Pastor Kevin E. Stafford.

When God’s vision is absent, people lose direction—but when His Word is honored, lives are truly blessed. Divine perspective goes beyond what we see with our natural eyes; as believers, we walk by faith, not by sight. God desires, designs, and delights in our lives, but clarity of vision is essential. Without it, people stumble, become spiritually blind, and remain stuck. When the pulpit declares God’s vision with clarity and we deny the flesh to strengthen our spirit man, our attitudes begin to align with God’s will. That alignment brings blessings.
