Table San Diego

Table San Diego We’re a decolonizing, multi-ethnic, justice-oriented community embodying Jesus and honoring sacred Kumeyaay land.

We're based in Southeast San Diego, California. Throughout history, we’ve learned that our church structures have the power to bring spiritual renewal, breathe life, deepen relationships, and bring inner healing; but, these structures also have the power to segregate, alienate, disenfranchise, and harm others (e.g., patriarchy, racism, colonization, homophobia). At Table San Diego, we believe that

structures exist for people, not the other way around. Our structure is a sacred, Spirit-filled space to know and be known, to love and be loved – and ultimately, to grow. Our structure breaks away from the traditional Western mold and allows for communal imagination. Table’s structures and practices aren’t for everyone. As we constantly listen to God’s voice around what gatherings can look like, we may shift our approach and adapt to ever-changing circumstances. We hope our space – created for you – is life-giving, helping you both belong and grow as a follower of Jesus.

Next Sunday, November 23rd, we’ll be hosting our first Friendsgiving as a church in Mission Valley. This invite is open to the wider San Diego community. We will do a trash cleanup and then head back to our friends’ complex for a taco party by the pool. To help us plan, RSVPs are required by Friday, November 21st.

Our church exists as an inclusive, anti-racist space that embodies Jesus’ love and affirms the dignity of all immigrants, LGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. We hope you can join us for our Friendsgiving!

As we celebrate this 5-year milestone tomorrow, we’re honored to welcome Prof. Joseph Allen (JoJo) Ruanto-Ramirez for a special reflection: “Shantideva’s Bodhisattva, Selflessness, and Social Just-Us.”

In Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, a Bodhisattva embodies radical compassion—one who vows to remain in the cycle of existence until all beings achieve liberation. Like the Bodhisattva of Compassion who “hears the cries of the world,” many Buddhist practitioners recognize this same awakened heart in figures like Moses (liberating the oppressed), Jesus (embodying sacrificial love), Muhammad (calling for justice and community), and Bahá’u’lláh (proclaiming unity across difference).

✨This Sunday, we have special guest speaker: Dr. Kirin Macapugay! Kirin, belonging to the Kalinga/Bontoc Indigenous peoples of the Philippines, is a long-time community organizer and a tenured human services professor at San Diego City College. She co-created the API student success program and established the nation’s first educational career path in homelessness prevention (dope!).

After 20 years of working in health and human nonprofits serving Asian Pacific Islander and other communities of color, and public education, today Kirin is Vice-Chair for the California Commission on Asian Pacific Islander (API) Affairs, and Chair of its Higher Education Committee, which spearheaded the historic California Student Achievement Program to support lower-income APIDA students.

Kirin will share about her reflections and stories as the granddaughter of a Filipino headhunter, which has shaped her own journey of loving her local communities fiercely. We’re so freaking honored to host Kirin and have her connect with our community.
