When Jesus spoke the Words "take up your cross" in Luke 9:23 and Matthew 16:24, His listeners knew exactly what a cross meant. It was a Roman tool used for ex*****on. A person carrying a cross was on a ONE-WAY TRIP TO DIE.

What it Looks Like in Everyday Life
Taking up your cross is not about carrying a literal piece of wood, nor is it just dealing with normal life problems like a bad cold or a tough job. Instead, it shows up in your daily choices: In your thoughts: Choosing to stop a selfish, angry, or untruthful thought the moment it pops into your head, and REPLACING IT WITH WHAT PLEASES GOD.
In your relationships: Forgiving someone who hurt you even when your feelings scream for revenge. It means putting other people's needs before your own.
In your schedule: Setting aside time to sit in God's presence, pray, and read His Word instead of rushing into your day on your own strength.
In your choices: Choosing to stand up for what is RIGHT and TRUE, even if people at school, work, or in the culture mock you for it.
