The Marianist Province Archives contain the permanent record of governance and administration of the historic and current provinces of the Society of Mary in the United States, 1849 to present. It is indeed a “place of memory” where the life of the Province in the United States, within the larger body of the Society of Mary, is documented. The archives are the private files of the Provincial Super

ior and his staff. Any access to these records is granted under his authority. The activities of the Marianists in the United States in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries are pertinent in American history and the Society’s current educational, spiritual, and apostolic arenas of activity. Photographs, blueprints and plans, and maps also document the Marianist imprint on the United States. The collection has a single provenance which is the Society of Mary. Contained is a wide spectrum of document types and genres of materials, including special collections of publications of Marianist members of the Province. Staff:

Happy Chaminade Day!

This hand-painted ceramic piece, cast from a mold, was presented to the Marianist Lay Communities of North America at the International Lay Assembly in Peru in March 2014. It has taken on the name of “Chami Brown” — a delightful combination of Marianist founder Fr. William Joseph Chaminade (1761-1850) and Charlie Brown. Remembering Br. John Habjan, SM (1945-2025)…
and his wonderful sense of humor.

“He taught classes in history and French and served as band moderator. He later noted that his only credentials for taking on those positions were that he’d ‘once eaten a croissant and had read a biography of John Philip Sousa.’”
