Redemption Hill

Redemption Hill We’re independent, non-denominational, and theologically reformed. We gather. We grow. We go. We’re a 9-year-old church plant in San Antonio, TX.

We’re independent, non-denominational, theologically reformed. We are an eclectic group of people coming together as a family, servants and missionaries to gather, grow and go as the Lord calls us each to.

Pentecost Sunday! Acts 17:1-15: Paul and Silas arrive in Thessalonica where there's a synagogue. For three Sabbaths, Paul reasons from the Old Testament scriptures, explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead.

Over 1,000 Old Testament prophecies converge in one man, Jesus. Yet the Jews wanted a warrior-king, not a carpenter from Nazareth. They wanted conquest, not crucifixion. Instead of celebrating the answer to centuries of prayers, jealous Jews form a mob.

Accusations: "These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also!" "They say there is another king, Jesus!"

The gospel doesn't just bring salvation, it reorients entire lives. From self-centered to Christ-centered. From idols to the living God. From horizontal concerns to vertical citizenship. That's threatening.

Paul and Silas flee to Berea (50 miles) in the night. The Bereans examine Scripture daily to verify. Many believe.

The gospel came not in word only, but in power and in the Holy Spirit.

Good News in The Ruins | World Without End

Acts 16:16-24: Paul and Silas meet a slave girl with a spirit of divination. She's making her owners rich through fortune-telling. Demonically possessed, she follows them for days shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God who proclaim the way of salvation!"

Theologically accurate. But unhelpful. Paul commands the spirit: "In the name of Jesus, come out of her." It does. Immediately. No power struggle. She's freed, not just from demons, but brought into God's family.
Her owners are furious. Their hope of gain is gone. They drag Paul and Silas to the marketplace, accusing them of disturbing the city and promoting unlawful customs. The crowd joins in. They're stripped, beaten with rods (no limit like Jewish law), and thrown into the inner prison, reserved for murderers.

The same gospel that saved Lydia saves this slave girl. The same gospel disrupts everything. It exposes hearts, challenges powers, and demands everything, offering everything in return.

The cost is real. But Christ has already endured infinitely greater for us.

Paul's Second Missionary Journey | World Without End

Acts 16:1-15: Paul and Silas continue the second missionary journey. In Lystra, they meet Timothy, son of a Jewish believer and Greek father, well spoken of by the brothers. Paul circumcises Timothy (not for salvation, but for gospel access to Jews).

As they deliver the Council of Jerusalem's decision, churches are strengthened and grow daily.

Then something unexpected: Forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach in Asia. Attempted Bithynia, the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. So they go to Troas.

The Macedonian Vision: A man appears to Paul, "Come over to Macedonia and help us!" Immediately they seek to go, concluding God has called them.
In Philippi, they find Lydia, seller of purple goods, worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to Paul's message. She and her household are baptized. The church in Philippi is born.

God guides through closed doors AND open doors. When He closes one path, He's opening another.

Two Journeys,One Gospel | World Without End

Acts 15:32–41

After the Council of Jerusalem settled the gospel question (salvation by grace alone), the church sends Judas and Silas to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas to deliver the letter. Judas and Silas encourage and strengthen the believers, then return to Jerusalem.Paul proposes a second missionary journey to revisit the churches they planted. But a sharp disagreement erupts: Barnabas wants to bring John Mark (who deserted them on the first journey). Paul refuses. The conflict is so intense they part ways. Two journeys, one gospel: Barnabas takes Mark and sails to Cyprus. Paul chooses Silas and travels through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.Even godly leaders disagree. But God uses BOTH journeys. Mark gets a second chance under Barnabas's mentorship. Paul and Silas push forward in gospel mission. The gospel advances through division.

Anniversary Sunday at the Picnic! (Part 2 of 1 Peter 2:1-12)

Third Sunday of Easter + Church Anniversary Picnic!

1 Peter 2:1-12 (Part 2): Picking up where we left off last week. Peter calls us to a twofold change—outward AND inward. The inward change precedes the outward change.

We've been ransomed by the precious blood of the Lamb. Not trying to EARN, but living in RESPONSE to what Christ has accomplished. We've been transformed, transported, transplanted—changed by grace alone.
The Literary Sandwich (v.1-3 + v.11-12): Put away malice/deceit AND abstain from fleshly passions. Keep conduct honorable among unbelievers so they glorify God.

The Middle (v.4-10): You are LIVING STONES being built into a spiritual house. Jesus is the CORNERSTONE—rejected by men, chosen by God. You are a CHOSEN RACE, ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, HOLY NATION. Once NOT a people, now GOD'S PEOPLE.

The church is not buildings or institutions—it's THE PEOPLE. We exist to proclaim His excellencies. From darkness into marvelous light.

The King You Need (Not the King You Expected)" | Matthew 21:1-11

Matthew 21:1-11: The Triumphal Entry. Jesus orchestrates the fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9—riding on a donkey signals "Your king has come."

Not the first time a king rode a donkey (Solomon rode David's mule in 1 Kings 1). Jesus = greater than Solomon, son of David.

Passover was like a fair—familiar + surprise. Up to 2 million in Jerusalem. Buzz in the air. Jesus disrupts the liturgy.

Crowd response: "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Psalm 118). They recognized the Messianic sign but misunderstood what KIND of king.

Not crowned with gold, but thorns. Not to overthrow Romans, but make atonement for sin.

What king are YOU expecting? Jesus is not choose-your-own-adventure. He just IS King.

Lord Jesus' Saving Grace | World Without End

Acts 15:1-21: The first church council. False teachers from Judea: "Unless you're circumcised according to Moses, you cannot be saved." Paul and Barnabas have "no small dissension and debate" with them.

Is salvation by grace or by works of the law? It cannot be both.
The Council of Jerusalem gathers. Peter stands: "Why put God to the test by placing a yoke neither we nor our fathers could bear? We believe we'll be saved by grace—just as they will." James confirms with Scripture.

The verdict: Salvation is all of grace, not of works. In Christ alone. By grace alone. Through faith alone. Scripture alone. To God's glory alone.
Jesus + nothing = everything.

Mere Mortals With A Message | World Without End

Acts 14:1-18: Paul and Barnabas driven from Antioch arrive in Iconium. A great number believe—both Jews and Greeks. But unbelieving Jews poison minds against them. Instead of retreating, they stay "a long time speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders."

Eventually driven out again, they flee to Lystra. There Paul heals a cripple—a "person of peace" with faith to be made well. The crowd thinks Zeus and Hermes have come down. They try to offer sacrifices. Paul and Barnabas tear their garments: "We're mere mortals! Turn from vain things to the living God!"

Spurgeon's quote: "The same sun which melts wax hardens clay. The same gospel which melts some to repentance hardens others in their sins."

There's no casual church attendance. You're either advancing toward God or being hardened against Him. No neutral ground.

Acts 13:48 remains true: "As many as were appointed to eternal life believed."
