Scripture: Isaiah 62:1-5 New Living Translation
Isaiah’s Prayer for Jerusalem
62 Because I love Zion, I will not keep still. Because my heart yearns for Jerusalem,
I cannot remain silent. I will not stop praying for her until her righteousness shines like the
dawn,
and her salvation blazes like a burning torch. 2 The nations will see your righteousness. World
leaders will be blinded by your glory. And you will be given a new name by the Lord’s own
mouth.
3 The Lord will hold you in his hand for all to see - a splendid crown in the hand of God.
4 Never again will you be called “The Forsaken City” or “The Desolate Land.” [b] Your new name
will be “The City of God’s Delight” [c] and “The Bride of God,” [d] for the Lord delights in you and will
claim you as his bride.
5 Your children will commit themselves to you, O Jerusalem, just as a young man commits
himself to his bride. Then God will rejoice over you as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride.

Daniel in the Den of Lions
6 [a] It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, 2 with three administrators
over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king might
not suffer loss. 3 Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his
exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. 4 At this, the administrators
and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but
they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither
corrupt nor negligent. 5 Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man
Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.” 6 So these administrators and satraps went
as a group to the king and said: “May King Darius live forever! 7 The royal administrators, prefects,
satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the
decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. 8 Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so
that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be
repealed.” 9 So King Darius put the decree in writing. 10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had
been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three
times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

12 Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know
whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’ 13 If
you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you.
Remember that this nation is your people.”
14 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will
anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will
distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
17 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you
and I know you by name.”
