Hey all!
It was so much fun to end our summer with a pool party this last week and to have Sunday School back in full swing! We are just 2 weeks out from our Wednesday nights kicking off. I am still looking for a 1 high school leader and 1 middle school leader. If you are interested in hanging out with a great group of students on Wednesday nights, please let me know!

This Sunday is my last Sunday. There will be no Sunday School. Instead, please join us for a reception in the gathering area. There will be cookies!
Also, I will be preaching on Sunday at the 11:00 contemporary service. Please join us as we talk about God the father/guide/Godhead/Papa.
I’m going to be inviting all youth: past, present, and future, for a special Children’s moment. I hope to see you there

I am praying for each of you as you go through this transition with youth directors. God is going to bring a great person to Northern Hills to continue to guide our students in their faith and as they navigate their teen years. I’m so grateful for the leaders that we have in place who have carried us through many years of ministry, through transitions in the past and will continue to carry us through transitions in the future. They are here to help, call on any of them if you ever need to talk.
I have been beyond blessed to be a part of this ministry for the last 6.5 years. You are an amazing group of individuals and friends, and I am so grateful to have had this time with you. Thank you for trusting me with your families and letting me be a part of something so meaningful. I pray God’s blessing upon each of you. Be reminded that God loves you, God covers you in grace, and God delights in you! I love you all!

Weekly Events:
Sunday School 9:45-10:45. We will meet outside to play games and fellowship, then middle school will meet in Wesley Annex to study the Gospel of Mark and High School will meet in Annex 1&2 for a study on “Hypotherables” hypothetic parables. There is no Sunday school this week, August 29.

Volunteers needed:
We are looking for parents who are interested in volunteering with the youth program either on Wednesday nights or Sunday mornings. Contact Carly to see how you can be involved.

Wednesday Night Youth Group:
September 8 kicks off a new year of youth group! We’ll be continuing through the “One Story” curriculum as we study the New Testament. Join us 5:30-6:30 for games, 6:40 pizza, and 7:00-8 for small groups.

World Vision Sponsor Child
As a youth group, we have decided to sponsor Njibiche through World Vision. We are responsible for supporting her financially, with our prayers, and with our letters. The financial responsibility is $39 a month. There is a collection jar in Wesley Annex along with updates on Njibiche and her community. Thank you for your support!

Happy First Day of School for those in NEISD and continuing school or almost there for others!
I’m praying for each of our students and our families as you prepare for a new school year!
As we prepare for fall, I am still looking for volunteers to help teach Sunday School and lead Wednesday nights. As we transition youth directors, I would love to have leaders in line to help us through the transition so that our students have consistency. If we have any parents or suggestions of people who would like to volunteer, please let me know. I’m looking for 2 high school teachers and one middle school teacher on Sunday mornings, 9:45-10:45. I am also searching for 1-2 more middle school and high school volunteers for Wednesday nights, 5:30-8:00. Thank you for your help and prayers as we go through this transition together.

Sunday, August 22: Back to School Bash Pool Party Join us Sunday, August 22, 12:45-3:00pm at the Weaver home (16175 Old Stable Rd. San Antonio TX 78247) for swimming, games, food, and fun! Although we don’t need a firm RSVP, please let me know if you plan on being there so that I can order enough food.

Hi Friends!
What an incredible summer! I can’t believe that it’s over and that we are already gearing up for fall!
Before we fully launch into fall we’ve got some fun ways to end summer:

Sunday, August 15: Backpack blessing. Bring your backpacks, school bag, gym bag, whatever you plan on taking to school with you and join us as we pray over you and pray for this new year. This will be happening in all services.

Sunday, August 15: Family Pool Party! The Life Happens Sunday School Class is inviting all families to join them for an end of summer pool party Sunday at 12:30 (or whenever you can get there) at the Shadow cliff Pool 15110 Eagle Grove St, San Antonio, TX 78232. Cost is $7/swimmer. Please RSVP to Angela Sparks so that she can arrange to make payments ahead of time. Angela Sparks: [email protected]

Dear families,

As you know, I have always had a passion for youth and missions. Recently I was introduced to Firm Foundations in Christ (FFICM) an organization that works with local leaders throughout Africa to follow up with new believers. In meeting with FFICM, God began to work in big ways by opening doors for me to join their staff as an International Trainer.

The ways that God has moved over this last month has left no room for question that it is God moving me into this new place. I will be training people to be small group church leaders through onsite visitations and zoom.

At the end of next month, August 2021, it is with a heavy heart that I leave my position as the youth director. I deeply love all our Northern Hills students and families, and I hope you know that. I will not be moving, but I will be spending a lot of time traveling, especially in the beginning. I will remain a member of NHUMC but give space to the new youth director to establish relationships with our wonderful students and families.

We’ve spent a year enjoying our outdoor space and now we’re ready to welcome everyone into Wesley as we bless our new youth room! We are taking over the west end of campus (Wesley Annex, Field, 9-square, gaga ball, and picnic area) and praying a blessing upon the area and the ministry!
Join us for this exciting night of fellowship, prayer, and treats! Wednesday, July 21, 2021. 6:30-8:00pm. This is an exciting time for our youth program, celebrating where we’ve been and dream about where we’re going! This is also a great time to catch up and see everyone as we have all had busy summers! We invite youth and parents to all come celebrate, bless, and pray for our future!

Happy Summering!
I hope you all had a great first week of Summer break!
I just want to remind you that we will not be meeting on Wednesdays during the summer. We will kick back off for the fall on September 8!
Sunday School is going strong on Sunday mornings at 9:45, so I hope you will join us there!

Would you like to help read Scripture for Sunday morning worship? We are looking for a few students or families who would be willing to record themselves at home reading the weekly scripture. Please let Carly know if you are willing to read.

Registrations are live now for Camp Eagle. July 29-August 2, cost $300. Scholarships are available.
Camp Eagle is available for incoming 6th graders to outgoing 8th graders (anyone currently in grades 5-8)

Once you have registered and paid your deposit, watch for an email from Camp Eagle to complete your registration.
Camp Eagle is full. We have requested more beds, but as of right now anyone who registers will be placed on a waitlist. If you have signed up for Camp Eagle but have not received the registration link from Camp Eagle, please let Carly know so that we can get it worked out.

Hey Friends!!!
Congratulations on finishing another school year! We are ready to celebrate you!
Wednesday night is our final youth group and we want to welcome our incoming 6th graders as well as say goodbye to our graduating seniors and celebrate everyone in between! To do this we have a special activity planned for 6:45-7:45. Bring a towel, water shoes, and clothes that can get wet! Because water will be involved, we want everyone to be aware that masks will be optional from 6:30 (pizza time) until we are done at 7:45. From 5:30-6:30 we still encourage people to wear masks as we protect our members who have not yet been vaccinated. If you can’t come for the whole time, we invite you to come for as long as you can.

The board of trustees met last night and updated the church's social distancing and mask policy. You will see the new policy below.
We know that many of our students are in the midst of getting vaccinated so we encourage everyone to mask up on Wednesday evenings as we finish out the school year.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the NHUMC Board of Trustees has used official public health guidance as the primary source for all of our recommendations. In consideration of recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, as of Tuesday, May 18, we have removed the requirement for social distancing and the use of masks for fully vaccinated individuals from our facility use policy The Board continues to affirm public health guidance recommending continued mask use for unvaccinated individuals or for those who choose to do so based on individual preferences and circumstances. To maintain privacy, NHUMC will not be inquiring as to any individual’s vaccination status. We are thankful for the progress our community has made in fighting this pandemic and for our congregation’s continued diligence in maintaining our health and safety precautions.
