Episcopal Diocese of West Texas - Bishop Jones Center Our core purpose: to be Jesus' witnesses in the world. This is the official page of the Diocese of West Texas. Rev. David M.

We are 30,000 persons gathered into 87 congregations, spread across 60 counties and 69,000 square miles in south central Texas. Our geographical boundaries are roughly Brady to the north, Victoria to the east, Brownsville to the south, and Del Rio to the west. For organizational purposes, we are arranged into seven convocations, each headed by a dean. Corporately, we function under a bishop, curre

ntly the Rt. Reed, who has jurisdiction over the entire diocese. We are part of the Episcopal Church in the USA, a community of 2.4 million members in America and abroad. The Episcopal Church is headed by a presiding bishop. We are also part of the Anglican Communion, a global community of 74 million persons in 38 member provinces throughout the world, headed by the Archbishop of Canterbury. While the Archbishop has no authority over the Episcopal Church, we do have historical and theological ties. Recognizing the cultural diversity that is our gift in south central Texas, our member are diverse and our worship and corporate life is often bilingual in language and in spirit.

Check out the latest Small Church Ministries newsletter! Jim Sartwelle, St. Matthew's, Kenedy and Small Church Steering Committee member shares what makes the Partners in Ministry churches of the Eastern Convocation so special. So, what’s Partners in Ministry (or PIM East for short)?

"Partners in Ministry in the Eastern Convocation of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas consists of six congregations who joined in covenant more than 20 years ago to ensure the vitality of the Episcopal Church in our small communities. PIM East presently includes Trinity (Edna), St. Stephen’s (Goliad), St. James’ (Hallettsville), St. Matthew’s (Kenedy), Grace (Port Lavaca), and Ascension (Refugio). Add us all up, and our average Sunday attendance wouldn’t put us in the top 1/3 of the Diocese. Make no mistake, though: PIM East is where “small but mighty” meets “strength in numbers.”

Visit dwtx.org/blog to learn more about this unique model that has allowed these small churches to keep their individual churches while being a part of a larger church family.

The First Book of Common Prayer, 1549

The Collect:
Almighty and everliving God, who through the Book of Common Prayer restored the language of the people in the prayers of your church: Make us always thankful for this heritage; and help us so to pray in the Spirit and with understanding, that we may worthily magnify your holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

I'm overwhelmed': July 4 flood survivor begins new chapter with the help of community organizations | Zack Briggs (KENS 5, San Antonio)
Nick Panagiotou moved into his new RV home Tuesday, which was a gift made possible by the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.

KENS 5 & Kens5.com in San Antonio highlighted the work being done by the diocesan Flood Relief team made possible through generous grants provided by The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD). The Diocese of West Texas is leading the effort to provide safe housing, rehoming 50 individuals and families by the one-year anniversary of the flood. “It started off with just RVs. That has since changed because the need is ever increasing,” said Jody Guerra with the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. “We’re discovering more and more people that have been affected that didn’t know that help was out there.”

Learn more about the partnership between the diocese and ERD in the latest issue of laVentana, dwtx.org/la-ventana-issues.
