One of San Antonio’s brightest lights, Lila May Cockrell, has passed away. She led the city as the first female mayor. She inspired a generation as President of the League of Women voters. She devoted her entire life to the people of San Antonio by setting an example of selfless service and legendary leadership. She will be in our hearts forever.

Cockrell, who is credited with bringing different groups together in a civil — yet forceful — way, died Thursday.
