St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church

St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church We hope you find our parish a place of welcome, where we strive to bring the love and mercy of our living God to all people.

We welcome you to St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church,
the second oldest parish on Florida’s west coast. As a Parish Community, we strive to bring the love and mercy of our living God to all people. We offer the Spirit of welcome and hospitality that comes from St. Benedict with the love of Creation that comes from St. Francis to all those who seek the living God, who calls us and heals us of all

that is broken within us. We are a parish with a great history, but also a great future, founded by Judge Edmund Dunne as a Catholic colony, and with strong links to:
The Benedictine Monks of St Leo Abbey who have served this parish and community tirelessly for many years. The Benedictine Sisters of Holy Name Monastery that taught in our school for 129 years. Saint Leo University, Florida’s first Catholic college, that offers higher education to our surrounding area and beyond. And last The Franciscan Sisters of St. Elizabeth of Hungry who are now the custodians of our heritage of Catholic Education, taking it forward to a new generation of parishioners, all of whom call St Anthony home. Whether you are a parishioner whose family has worshiped here for many generations, new to our community or a visitor to our Church page, we welcome you and are happy that you stopped by. If we can be of any assistance to you, please let us know.

The Catholic Women’s Club closed out its season with a tea at Sumner Manor on May 3. Over forty members, and Fr Garry, enjoyed a lovely tea with all the fixings. Four lucky members won $50 from the 50/50, and many ladies wore hats or fascinators, adding to the authenticity. Enjoy the summer! CWC will be back in action in September.

The DOSP asks us to be courageous as we remember and pray for St Paul Miki and Companions...

Today is the Feast of St. Paul Miki and Companions, also known as the 26 Martyrs of Nagasaki. This group of native Japanese Catholics and foreign missionaries courageously gave their lives for their faith, suffering torturous deaths in 1597.

Catholicism began to spread throughout Japan in the 16th century by the efforts of Saint Francis Xavier (1506-1552). By 1587, over 200,000 Japanese had entered the Church.

When the 26 Martyrs of Nagasaki arrived in Japan from the Philippines in 1593, their zealous evangelism unsettled Japanese authorities. In an effort to frighten Japanese Christians, imperial minister Toyotomi Hideyoshi sentenced the group to death by crucifixion and lancing – a mockery of their faith.

St. Paul Miki and his 25 companions gave their lives on "Martyr's Hill" on February 5, 1597 after tediously marching 600 miles to the city of Nagasaki. Pope Pius IX canonized the Martyrs of Nagasaki in 1862.

St. Paul Miki and Companions, please pray for us!

The Catholic Diocese of Saint Petersburg celebrates St Agatha's Feast Day. She is known as the patron saint of nurses and for protection against fire. Known for her courage, purity, and devotion to God, having refused marriage to a Roman official, leading to her martyrdom. Today, we celebrated her in our parishes and schools!
